A lot of the usual Zimmer "crunch, crunch" sound he can't seem to get out of. Sounds like Mad Max with Zimmer's "angel voice" chiming in on occasion. A shame Zimmer's Man of Steel theme never really gets to soar here. It's fine for what it is. It is MUCH better than whatever the hell Amazing Spider-Man 2 was. I can say that for it.

Got my 2 CD Deluxe Edition today, as usual the CD and 24-Bit digital are both compressed and congested. Vinyl is on its way (but tempted to cancel). Why they bother to compress the 24-bit release as heavily I don't know, seems to fly in the face of the concept of a premium audiophile release..

There's 2, maybe 3 good tracks, a few pleasant variants on MOS and a bunch of nice sounds which never amount anything, often teasing something cool before the cue suddenly and disappointingly fades/cuts... the rest, probably 85% of it is just run of the mill, generic filler. Junkie XL remains unremarkable and Zimmer disappoints.

I'm no Zimmer hater either, I love most of Zimmers work (old and new) and own much of his stuff on CD/Vinyl; and went to see him live in 2014.

This is just a bit meh..

Looking forward to Dunkirk & Inferno though.

Dunkirk it's a Nolan film, so im excpecting something "new" from Zimmer, like Interstellar was. I agree, this soundtrack it's just like "meh", just 4 good tracks in my opinion.

There are some instances in this score where it just sounds like mindless banging with no reason other than to just make it sound loud and bombastic to the point that is it is just super annoying. This is probably one of the biggest disappointments I've experienced when it comes to anticipation for a movie score and it failing to deliver on any level. Hopefully Hans bounces back from this quickly. Maybe Tarzan will be good. I am really hopeful Inferno will be phenomenal like The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons were. Really looking forward to Dunkirk, too.

I also feel the same way. It just feels so lacking. I just can't get into it. The Batman Suite has bits of Superman's theme in it as well, I thought that was odd too. I loved the Dark knight scores more and Man of Steel was great too but this? eh. Where is the Doomsday theme? no idea. I'll keep listening to it and will see if it will grow on me.

I've just come home from the film. Your mileage may vary. For my part, it was an epic worth the anticipation, with all but a few moments landing spectacularly.

As for the score, I feel strongly here that context is key. Listening to it now? Works for me. The Batman compositions especially. He is depicted as a nightmare (a big, hulking, violent nightmare) in BvS, and Junkie XL's work truly reinforces that notion.

While I initially wasn't amazed by it but just liked it, now that I've seen the movie I can enjoy the score a lot more. Not perfect, but very enjoyable for me. Works perfectly in the movie.

I'm digging it. Certainly better and more memorable than the (tired) Dark Knight Rises. I'm in the minority, but I think the Batman theme (which is very reminiscent of Shirley Walker's for the Animated Series when played loudly) is the best yet, even better than Elfman's. It's a pity the movie received this critical mauling.

I’m almost certain that this is the correct chronological order. The last half of “New Order” isn’t used in the film (and is just a repeat, it seems, of the end of “Vigilante.” Not sure what the reason was behind that.) “The Red Capes Are Coming” is a combination of at least two separate cues, but it’s more or less in film order so not a big deal. “They Were Hunters” also sounds a little different than what’s in the film. Other tracks are also mixed differently and are not the final film versions.

But wait for it.. I bet they're all gonna copy Hans Zimmer nonetheless, feeling like his type of music is a trademark for the "dark superhero movies"

This could benefit and give us a new view on music for superhero movies.

I agree with some of the more recent sentiments about this score. At first I really thought, fuck, that's it? Did they actually spend a whole afternoon on this or what? But now after seeing the film, the score works so much better (and seeing the film a 2nd time makes that much much better as well). The lesson here is not to judge a score w/o seeing the visual element it's designed for. A perfect example is the "knightmare" sequence with Must There Be A Superman? Without context it just sounds like dull sound design, but with context it works brilliantly (or at least much better).

Listening to "Men Are Still Good", I can only assume...

Gollum is revealed to be the big bad in the post-credits sequence. Can even the combined forces of the Justice League hope to stand against the power of The Ring?

The music goes much better with the film; and the few really good hooks are used more often in the movie too. Our otherwise rather average local cinema has upgraded its audio system as well, which combined with the dynamic range of the music in the DCP; shits all over the mushy, over-compressed CD/Download.

There's also a really powerful version of the Man Of Steel theme in BvS which I don't believe is on the album, I can't recall where it is in the film, just that I really liked it.

I guess we have to remember (myself included, in respect to my prior post..) is that this music is made for the purpose of framing a movie; not primarily as an album. And the music is very fitting in the movie.

However, I think many composers (and the production companies etc.) really need to do a better job of making soundtrack releases more representative of the music as it is in the movie. RCP in particular..

Yeah, totally agree. I honestly can't understand why producers don't put tracks in film order on albums. The music simply is not written for stand alone listening, so to try to create a "listening experience" through "creative sequencing" is just an over reach. Oh well whatever, it's not like producers will be trolling this thread for advice lol

Unless its part of his contract, Hans Zimmer won't compose WW. He recently announced his retirement from scoring superhero films. On one hand I am sad as he did some amazing scores for some of my favorite superhero films. I haven't seen BvS yet, but liked the music I heard off the album. On the other hand, I'm happy he retired on what I believe to be his own terms. He's a magnificent composer, deserving to do what he pleases.

There is still a lot of music not on this album that was in this movie. And the end credits from the movie is a little bit of Man of Steel tracked as well as pieces from all over this album. I do believe you should be able to recreate the end credits using this album and Man of Steel, though.

With Hans on tour for the next two months and the fact that Doctor Strange is due out later this year, he would've already had to start working on it. Given that he would get back around what, June, July? The film is due in November. Haven't seen him do one of those 'last minute' projects in a while, not to mention there's yet to be an officially announced composer so I'm willing to bet he's not; and honestly it'd be amazing if young does it, the poor guy needs to get back out there again lol It seems like a fitting project for him to do, actually

To my knowledge the only time that's happened is with the Rogue Cut.

So I saw the Ultimate Cut yesterday (no, not pirating...Flixster and CinemaNow put it up in SD early with HD available through Chromecast of all things so I went ahead and bought myself a UV code which I then redeemed, all from a US VPN, and voila... and that is too many hoops to jump through for pirates it seems given the lack of torrents). Which was a massive improvement over the theatrical - it's the same story, but far more complete, with more than a few plot and characterisation issues filled in. Oh WB why, why why....

Anyhow, there is new music but not much. From what I can recall - mostly extended bits of existing cues, the real new addition was a new motif used for the investigation parts in the middle, particularly the build up to that Senate scene.

Wish I could see it now, was surprised no torrent site managed to snatch it. Read the descriptions and was quite thrilled.

I think WB thought people wouldn't care about the plot moving along and went for the fight and the action only, which was wrong. That and the stupid MPAA.

The MPAA had nothing to do with the decision. The film was cut down because WB thought people wouldn't want to see a three-hour film in a smelly, sticky theater.

I don't think the MPAA had much to do with it because, well, every other country apart from the US that has rated it, have rated the new cut the same as the theatrical. The big issue seemed to be runtime. one factor that was the reason for a similar thing happening with Snyder's Watchmen is IMAX - 70mm platters can't hold over 2h45 of film. That and, especially in BvS case....less showtimes, people being put off by the fact that it's 3 hours, etc etc. Everything it tries to fit in - the main story, the JL set up, all the characters, it all called for 3 hours, and thankfully this cut does it all justice.

And yeah, for a blockbuster like this, the relative lack of action/fighting ( which is mostly reserved for the second half of the film and the Trinity v Doomsday battle being so massive that it *almost* harms everything that came before it) is probably surprising for audiences. First 2 hours of the new cut are straight up political thriller, a-la Argo (no surprise because Terrio).
