There are some people who like rap and hip hop on this board but the vast majority of us are into other sorts of music. If you divide "rock" into multiple categories though, there are probably about as many people interested in any given category as there are in rap.

With the exception of "generic contemporary rock that gets played a lot on the radio." Probably at least 50% of the people who post in this forum are into that, but I don't really count them.

I only like 80's Hip-Hop/Rap (and not much at that,) but I do like De La Soul, Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash.

^same here. I don't like Public Enemy though. I don't remember which video it was, but it opened up talking about the old civil rights movement and people like MLK and their "non violent protest" and then they were all like "screw that!"(or something similar) and marched out pumping their fists about a new revolution or something. Really stupid stuff and I thought the same thing when I was nine.

But I love a lot of old rap. I tend to get my brothers dated CDs for holidays... then I listen to them.Like, I got one of them "The Great Adventures of Slick Rick" for christmas.

I would say that makes you just as bad as the people who devote every post in the music forum denouncing rap.

Some rap is ok (very little though) and hip hop is ok but I prefer rock over it...

1TYM and DJ DOC are good...I would definitely not consider them rock.

Let me expound then. I don't see that as being a bad thing. People can like whatever they want and it doesn't matter to me.

You can't be a really serious music fan if you only listen to what's fed to you on the radio, though. That's what I'm talking about. In order to have a legitimate opinion on music you need to be at least somewhat cultured in it. Nobody becomes a great literary critic who only read the books they were assigned in high school, and nobody becomes a great appreciator of film by only seeing movies when they happen to get together with their buddies on a weekend. It's no different with music.

...what? How exactly was I saying that?

I didn't even say a single thing about the value of any given genre, all I said was about how many people here listen to them. Then I said I don't count people who only listen to generic radio music. Where the fuck are you getting that? O_o

Right. I don't count them when thinking of how many people are in a given genre. How that equates to "everything that is popular is bad" is beyond me!
