I'm so confused...I have like this friend..who wants to name her kids after
FFX-2 characters...Geez..I mean name your kid after a ffx-2 character?!
Think of it...you boy is playing outside and when he has to go to bed you scream outside: GIPPAAAAAAAAALH!! GO TO BED NOW!! ..It sounds weird..
doesn't it? My "friend" is such a loser...
I mean..Geezz Man! Get in touch with reality!

Ehm, why should you name your children after FF8 instead of FFX-2? Zell come eat your dinner? Puh-leeze. I think it should be banned to name your children after any game characters that have not every day names.

Too true Jazzy. Seriously, I mean, there's being a fan and then there's being a FAN. Recomend nice names like Abigail and Carla. Or if it's a boy give him a name like Christopher or Shawn. But still, I know some people want their children to be different, but man, no WAY!

Naming your kids after FF characters is kind of unusual but the idea is kind of cool. I mean naming your kids "Cait Sith or "Wakka would be stupid but other names like "Cid" and "Rinoa" would proably fit in real life, and hell I would a couple people named "Zell" and "Lulu" so some of the names could fit in real life.
Besides it's better than your friend naming thier kids after celebrities kids, I mean who the fuck going to name thier kid "Phinneaus".

Since this has turned into a general discussion of naming kids after FF characters, I'm moving it to General Final Fantasy, where it may or may not be closed depending on whether there's already a topic there like this.
And yeah, some I would use, some I wouldn't. Locke is one that would be okay (there's a character on the show Lost called Locke, although that's his last name) and Freya is another okay one that actually comes from mythology.

Well, it all depends on the name. And some of the used FF names are real names anyway. Auron for example, or Lulu, also a lot names from older FF games.... there are quite a lot. Titus is also a name (and it sounds like Tidus).
That's why I can't say I wouldn't name my kid like that. Some of the names are quite ok and doesn't sound bad at all. ;)

i know a Riku (female-go figure)and a Lulu, but I don't think naming your kid Yuna, Auron, Rinoa, or maybe even Garnet or Quistis would be such a bad thing, so long as you didn't go around telling ppl where you got the name from, no-one's going to know or care, are they?

I posted a link to a little baby born in July who was named "Yunalesca". I thought it was really disturbing, but lots of people didn't agree. I guess it's not all that different than naming a kid after a character in a book. Some names are just awful, but others aren't bad. I wouldn't do it, though. Lulu - there's a pop singer with this name
Zidane - the Football geezer
Barret
Vincent
Tifa - could easily be Tiffany etc...
and others are cool as well
Aeris, Yuna, Auron, Tidus - none of them are bad names for a child ( although Yunalesca is pushing it)

Two FF character names you should never use together for a child's name under any circumstances.
Seriously, in a sense, my real name is actually also the name of a FF character - a minor one though (my real name is Marcus, who was one of the Tantalus members in FFIX, and who joins your party at several points in the game).
Really, I can't see too much of a problem with naming a child after a FF character, as it's no real different to naming someone after a famous person or literay figure. Mind you there are some FF names that no sane person would ever consider for a child's name (most of the FFVIII and X names spring to mind... ).
And, adding my own personal choice, about the only FF character names I'd consider naming a child would be either Terra or Garnet (and I've heard Garnet used as a male name as well), but I guess it would be up to the mother of the child to decide though.
GoD~FaThEr
02-01-2005, 03:27 AM

WyrmKing
03-18-2005, 11:48 PM
Tthey are unusual names but i would really like to be named after one of them, I prefer some of the names that my real one. Amarant, vincent, aeris, Barthelo, tifa, edward and firion are cool names but in my opinion kefka, Fu So Ya, Laguna, Tellah and Loz (of FFVII AC) are really weir funny names. Imagine that your taxi driver is called Necron Trival.

Well anyway, there are a few characters that I think would be good games, some minor characters like "Marcus" have pretty decent names but calling your daughter "Dagger" or "Terra" could be a bit of a mistake..

it would be worst if the kid actually took on the personality of the character they are named after, but in my opinion the worst names to give a kid would be kimhari (or however its spelt) or gau, or naming someone after ff1 character (black mage, fighter is on the phone for you, Black Mage: tell him to go SCREW himself!) but there are stranger names (like that one overly flamboyant, strange, child molesting celebrity who named his kid blanket)

not all hardcore ff fans are geeks, mind you i take pride in being a geek, its better than being some braindead jock or some go nowhere in life stoner, remember that everyone next time someone calls you a geek, that it is the geeks who end up owning companies and making craploads of money

Hah... You practically just called everyone who posts here a geek. Though I don't know if I'm a geek. I play FF but no very often. They get too hard so I usually give up on them :(...

It would probably be okay, if you gave them one of the more normal names, for example Vincent or Cid, because you actually really like the names. But naming them that because you really like the character is a little weird.

There is onthing bad in calling your kids afet FF characters, the only problem is: what if with the pass of time they hate FF or any RPG???
I would have really loved to be called Seymour or Bastok or Gustaberg

You COULD call your children ff names or you could change the names around a bit so that do sound like ffnames (does that make sense??..)
Take ffx for example:
Lulu: you could call your child louise and then shorten it to lulu
Auron: The name Aaron soulds like Auron....
Yuna: I like the name Yuna i would call my child yuna, but im not gonna...
Rikku: Its a nice name but id probably call my cat rikku
Wakka:.....dunno...
Kimarhi: (see above)
Dona: Donna
Jecht: Jack?
Callie: (the little girl who was so exited about the calm) If i was going to name my children after ffcharacters id definatly pick callie, its so pretty
O'aka: only if you want your child beaten up....
Shelinda: the worst name iv ever heard
Biran: switch around the i and r and you want get.....Brian!
Speaking of people with ffnames my cousin is called Riona which is kinda like Rinoa cept the o and n are switched round.....just thought id mention that...

I name my pets after final fantasy characters, but I'd never name a child after one. That would be wierd, I can hear it now, "Squall, eat your peas." Yeah, I think I'd probably bust out laughing, then how authoritive would that sound?

I named my cat Yuna, but I find it pretty stupid to name your kids after FF characters. Unless they're already normal names that people have all the time, I think I knew someone named Lulu before, and Erin (Sailor Erin from FFIX) is my brothers girlfriends name.

Riku is a man's name in Finland, and the char "Vaan" means "Just" in finnish.
If i'd have to name my kids after FF characters, I'd pick... hmm... all of those are so fucking rare in here...

Our neighbors named their dog "Toadstool" after the character from super mario...

Personally I think that naming ones children has its moments. I mean a few of the names arent to bad but there are limits. Like Brother, and i guess Gippal. But I reckon some are ok like Barret, Tifa, Tidus, Wakka(Wakka is the name of my real brother...yes im serious). I just think (in my opinion) that normal names are a bit tiresome, and names like FF characters bring variety.
People naming there kids can have its faults like there is a baby on the news whos parents were Matrix fans and called there baby Zion, and another family called theres Trinity.

Most of the names in X-2 suck. The only okay ones I could think of are Lenne and Paine.

ff8- selphie, irvine
ff9- possibly eiko, well most likely anyway
ff10- lulu, seymour (especially with the last name skinner, hehe)
kh- leon, possibly riku or kairi if you want to be unique

In reality, most of the names they use are real names. Tidus, Auron, Squall, Lulu, Rinoa, Rikku, Vincent, Cid, Aeris, Tifa, and Cecil are all names which I have heard in the United States and here in South America. I even know a guy who is named Cloud. Most of the other names, like Yuna, Wakka, Quistis, and such are merely Japanese names. If you were in Japan you would see those names aren't so weird. I would consider naming my kids Tidus, Rikku, Auron, Aeris, Vincent, Rinoa, Tifa, or maybe even Wakka or Quistis. I probably would not go as far though as to name my kid Sephiroth. How would you feel if you were some little kid at school and all of your classmates called you Sephi? Wouldn't you feel a little bit like getting a big sword and fulfilling your role? "Hey, if you're supposed to be Sephiroth, why not go all the way?" But what if they do hate RPG's from then on?
Edit: Terra is also a normal name. Both its spellings are used in the US.
