Paul Mauriat was one of the most prolific arranger-composer-conductors of the 20th Century. His performing and recording career with the Grand Orchestre de Paul Mauriat spanned over 50 years and 3 record labels, most notably Mauriat’s 28 year association with Philips Records. Mauriat is best remembered in the US for his cover of the Andre Popp/Pierre Cour tune “L’Amour Est Bleu” (“Love Is Blue”), which became a number 1 hit worldwide. Like most popular recording artists of the 1960s Mauriat recorded a Christmas Album in 1968 titled “Christmas Album”. A second album in 1973 was titled “Joyeux Noel. Both albums featured French and traditional Christmas tunes and carols and another #1 hit, “Petit Papa Noel”. The earlier LP included choral vocals (in French) and the later album used almost the same arrangements but with a wordless chorus. I have combined both albums and in the case of selections which appeared on both albums I have re-edited, remixed and combined into longer versions rather than have repeats of the same song or carol. This one of the most beautiful and reverent Christmas albums you are ever likely to encounter and Mauriat’s arrangements, especially the choral ones, are astonishing to hear even 45+ years later. I hope you enjoy this new take on two of the most wonderful Christmas LPs ever produced. I was hoping to complete a new upgraded hi-rez version of this album in the FLAC format but recent medical problems prevented it. For now please enjoy the MP3 version, which I promise to replace with FLAC before next Holiday Season. Happy Holidays to all!
