Guillaume Roussel is a name I am not familiar with. Already reading a bio, I come across a red flag for some. In 2010 he joined Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions and composed additional music for the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean movie. Well, we all know what to expect then, but just because you are a fan of Zimmer’s music or not a fan, Roussel’s music deserves to be judged on its own.
The opening cue ‘3 Days To Kill’ is pure RCP action, a bit like Jablonsky I would say. It’s very heavy and dark and has a bit of a theme. I like it. Guillaume shows he can do other type of music with ‘Guido’ which is a quirky Italian type of music. That one I didn’t like. There are only 8 tracks of Roussel’s music here, and mostly it’s very action-oriented. ‘Hotel’ reminds me of a bit of early Atli Orvarsson type of action.’Velo’ starts off with a simple piano but has a powerful buildup and is one of my favorite cues on the score.
Guillaume Roussel is an exciting name to come out of RCP, but he will be in the sniper sights of RCP haters early on. This score is ok, but what I heard gave me enough hope that we will hear some great music in the future from Guillaume.
