SOMETHING FESTIVE! was a custom pressed limited edition compilation LP of Christmas vocals & instrumentals by A&M recording artists available exclusively at B.F. Goodrich Tire Stores during the Holiday Season in 1968. SOMETHING FESTIVE! has been out of print for over 40 years and I wore out my original LP. Fortunately, because it only cost $1.00, I persuaded my father to buy a backup copy which remained unopened until 2010. I transferred this audiophile quality LP to digital using Sony’s DSD process and the resulting sound is truly spectacular, in my opinion, while preserving the analog warmth of the original LP. Missing from the LP was The Carpenters, who were a year away from signing with A&M but they more than made up for it by recording 2 excellent Christmas albums for the label in the early to middle 1970s. To expand the LP I have excerpted and remixed The Carpenters’ “"A Christmas Portrait”", an 18 minute, beautifully arranged and sung salute to a homespun Christmas celebration plus additional Carpenters remixes. SOMETHING FESTIVE! is my all time favourite Christmas collection and I hope you find it as enjoyable as I have for 40+ years, especially in this remixed DSD expanded version. Happy Holidays to all.
