Bach Organ Masterworks Kei Koito Vol I 2009
After her magnificent Buxtehude boxed-set in 2007 (CD 50-2704/06); Japanese organist Kei Koito pursues her collaboration with Claves Records by laying the foundation stone of a cycle dedicated to masterpieces by Johann-Sebastian Bach.
Recorded in June 2009 on the organ of the Groningen Martinikerk in the Netherlands; she presents an anthology of as ever - most carefully selected pieces. Original scores such as the Preludes and Fugues BWV 543; 548 et 743; the chorals "Liebster Jesu; wir sind hier" and "Schmcke dich; O liebe Seele"; and the Partita "Sei gegrsset; Jesu gtig"; but also transcriptions by Bach (Adagio from the Sonata for violin and harpsichord BWV 1016) and by herself (Trio in G from the Sonata for viola di gamba and harpsichord BWV 1027).
Kei Keito excels in them; showing to those who had not yet encountered it her very special affinity with the St-Thomas cantor. She founded a Bach Festival in 1997 in Lausanne (where she lives); Festival that has become a reference in the matter.

Bach Organ Masterworks Kei Koito Vol II 2010
Kei Koito was born in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, into a family of artists. She began her musical studies at the age of six with the piano, followed by the cello and voice. At the age of 12 she discovered the organ, and it soon became her favourite instrument.
She graduated from National University of Fine Arts and Music of Tokyo/Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku (where she was awarded first prize for organ, while simultaneously achieving high distinctions in harpsichord, musical theory, chamber music, philosophy, and musical aesthetics) and from the Conservatory of Geneva/Conservatoire de Genve (where she won several prestigious prizes: the "Premier Prix de virtuosit d'orgue et d'improvisation avec distinction", the "Grand Prix Spcial de l'anne", and the Otto Barblan Prize for the best interpretation of J.S. Bach, all was unanimously awarded).
She has studied the organ under Pierre Segond (Geneva) and Xavier Darasse (Toulouse); early music with Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini (Fribourg); Baroque music with Reinhard Goebel (Kln); and orchestration and composition with Eric Gaudibert (Geneva).

Bach Organ Masterworks Kei Koito Vol III 2012
A night in Haarlem
What on earth can be going on in a church between midnight and 7 a.m. ? Vespers were done away with a long time ago; and in any case there is no question of holding such ceremonies in a Protestant church; even though this one; consecrated in 1559 by the Pope and the Emperor; was originally Catholic!
The reason for this unusual nocturnal presence is the recording of an organ recital dedicated to the great Bach by the extraordinary Japanese organist Kei Koito; who is a Swiss resident. To avoid day-time urban noise; and especially to give tourists and believers access to churches; organists often have no other option but to spend sleepless nights.
After a few hours sleep in a beautiful little hotel nestled in the old national stamp and bank-note factory; we arrive at 2 a.m. to be welcomed by the discreet artistic director of this recording. In the half-light; he tells us we are walking over the dead; and hopes we are not too afraid of ghosts. As we get closer; we can just make out the imposing mass of the 1738 Christian Mller organ. Jean-Claude Gaberel; sound-engineer for the project; had warned us of a monstrous instrument; and it certainly does command respect: it is quite simply one the biggest organs in the world.
Played by Handel; Mendelssohn and even young Wlfi at the tender age of 10; it has an innumerable quantity of pipes and stops; its least friendly feature is the unevenly weighted keys over the three keyboards; making the organists job quite athletic; particularly on the middle keyboard; which requires twice the strength to produce the sound. The recording goes on with an organ transcription by Kei Koito of the sublime aria from J.S Bachs Cantata for alto; BWV 170; Vergngte Ruh; beliebte Seelenlust (Delightful rest; beloved pleasure of the soul) whose title is in strong contrast with the outside noise coming from talkative drinkers and merrymakers.
But these untimely disturbances cannot cover the sound of such a powerful organ; even in its softest dynamics. Day soon starts to dawn; the merrymakers have gone to bed; replaced by huge; extremely noisy seagulls. But Kei Koito carries on with her programme relentlessly; playing fugues and chorales right into the early morning.
