This splendid concert, held in honour of John Williams' 83rd Birthday isn't just about Star Wars - although that score receives the biggest cheer of the evening. We get a lovely performance of "Soundings" - a classical piece written to celebrate the opening of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. There's a delightful showpiece for violin and orchestra based on "Fiddler on the Roof". There's a deliciously jazzy concerto for saxophone, vibraphone, and double bass, based on Catch Me If You Can. There's a three movement suite from Schindler's List performed by Itzhak Perlman. It's a glorious concert, with a well behaved audience (except for "Imperial March" which was conducted by Williams himself).
It has been posted before - in recordings from French and German television broadcasts. This post comes from the recent Bluray release of the concert. You can have it four different ways:
