American History X is a visually striking and emotionally draining cinematic study of racism in late nineties America. The madness and destruction brought forth by racial extremism and it's effect on two brothers and their immediate family. Unfortunately, racism (and especially extremism) are still prevalent in this country (thanks in no small part to the powers that be who profit from racial based sabre rattling) making this film perhaps as relevant today as it was then. This is my favorite Anne Dudley score. It is a dramatic and dynamic score with passages of operatic heart wrenching beauty, exciting action, and quiet introspection. I highly recommend the film and score.
