SNOW WHITE AND THE THREE STOOGES, released in 1961, was the trio’s only colour picture and the only one not produced by their home studio, Columbia. 20th Century-Fox filmed the picture in their wide screen CinemaScope process with a 4 channel discrete stereophonic sound mix. The Stooges’ young co-stars were Olympic skating champion Carol Heiss making her film debut as Snow White and Edson Stroll (McHale's Navy) as her Prince Charming. The film also featured the appropriately sinister Patricia Medina as the evil Queen and Guy Rolfe as her henchman. The Stooges’ trademark slapstick was nowhere to be found in this film and to their credit, they played their 3 man substitute for the 7 dwarfs fairly straightforward and in almost total dramatic service to the story. The film was scored by Lyn Murray with 6 songs by Harry Barris & Earl K. Brent and features gorgeous orchestrations by Edward B. Powell, Fred Steiner & Arthur Morton.

A soundtrack album was released by Columbia Records containing only the songs and dialogue highlights from the film but no underscore tracks. This 24 bit remaster of the soundtrack album was transferred from a fairly clean stereo LP and, unlike the original LP, is tracked so you can enjoy the wonderful songs minus the dialogue segments if you prefer. SNOW WHITE AND THE THREE STOOGES was not a success on its initial release but has attained an appreciative cult following over the years and hopefully will be restored and released on Blu-Ray in the near future. In the meantime, the soundtrack album, which has been out of print for over 50 years, is here to enjoy.

The Stooges at their nadir asked to basically populate the background while a bunch of ice skaters take center stage. Ironically, they probably got paid more for this picture than all the Columbia shorts combined. It was shot by Leon Shamroy, easily one of the greatest DPs ever to touch a camera and a man who had no business working with the artless likes of The 3 Stooges. He once said, "I deserve an Oscar for every picture I worked on including SN&T3S. Make that especially SN&T3S!" As a lifelong Stoogiologist, you don't know how happy this addition to the collection has made me. Thanks!
