I think the main reason is tied to the fact that there'$ not a large enough fan-ba$e in any one given community to $upport $uch a $pecific genre of mu$ic. About the clo$e$t you'll get is either starting your own station, starting a show on a community radio station, or listening to your own music without the radio.
Unfortunately, the first two options take a chunk of money. But, I understand your pain. I live in an area with some pretty sucky stations myself. They're all "playlist based", and as such, you're going to hear the same 40 songs all day/week/month long, and that's regardless of whether I'm listening to the country, classic rock, hard rock, or oldies stations. I like a little bit more variety than that. So I hardly ever listen to the radio at all, unless we're having extreme weather conditions.
But I feel your pain!

thank u finally some1 who gets it! i would love to start my own vgm & cartoon radio but as u said it's expensive esp to get permission 2 use the songs i can probably get away with using vgm w/o getting permission but i would have to get permission for cartoons 4 sure! idk how to start a radio station but it probably costs a lot of money which is the problem! that is y i want it on the regular radio but there isn't enough interest in vgm & cartoon music they r very specialized so the real question is how can we get more people to listen to vgm & cartoon music to justify having a dedicated radio station? i think that is the key we need to get more people into vgm & cartoons! idk how that would be done but it starts with people not listening to tailor swift & all the other over-rated top-40 singers right now! they need to realize that vgm & cartoons r better then the top-40 stuff (although i like some top-40 songs) only after people stop listening to top-40 shit then maybe this would happen!
EDIT: if they can play other specialized genres on the radio like classical music then y not vgm & cartoons?

If you're a college student, ask your university radio for some air time. That's what a couple of kids did at a local university near me, and they're still broadcasting a once-a-week vgm show something like 5 years later.
I'm pretty sure radio stations are a huge money pit unless you're big enough to bring in national advertising. Our local classical station struggles every year to stay in business. When I was living in Texas, there was a station that only played local artists, and I swear the entire city listened to it. So naturally, a big business station bought out its frequency and it's now all Katy Swift or whoever. You're talking about a niche way smaller than either of these. But at least online radio is easy to stream through car stereos now.

it sucks i wish vgm & cartoons were more popular with the general public! they don't really want vgm or cartoons maybe more people should listen 2 & enjoy vgm & cartoons! but this is the US where it's all about tailor swift! she dominates the radio!

Well, at least there's basically infinite access to vgm through the internet. It may not be played on the radio, but you can find most things you're looking for within seconds.
