Several years ago I assembled a 40 minute suite of Alfred Newman's underscore arrangements (based on Richard Rodgers' music) for the 1956 film version of "The King and I"�, from a pristine stereo tape copy of the studio recording sessions. It is one of my favourite albums and is among the first I transferred to my portable player. Very little of this music is featured on the Angel expanded edition CD of "The King and I" soundtrack album, which is rightfully devoted to the song score. The 24K CD which was included with the Deluxe Laserdisc of the film included most of this underscore but the tape had a few pieces not even on that CD. I assembled the cues (some of which were less than a minute long) for a satisfying musical presentation, so the music is not exactly in the order it appeared in the film but I think you will find it quite listenable. The genius of composer-conductor Alfred Newman & his long time associate, Ken Darby, shine throughout these arrangements which are performed by the magnificent Fox Studio Orchestra and Chorus. Newman & Darby won the 1956 Music Adaptation Academy Award for "The King and I". Below is a link to a FLAC file of this suite. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Wonderful! The King and I has always been one of my favorite musicals! Nothing beats Alfred Newman's orchestrations of these classic songs. A real treat. Thank you for your efforts to preserve this music.
