So we can keep the "Lossless VGM Thread" and the "What's With FFSarah Thread" back on topic.

Say hi, because hello is complicated enough!
......
I like vbulletin forums... but any option is welcome as I'm not an expert on furm software.
I may not have money right now, but anything I can do to help I'll do it.

How does everyone feel about moving irc networks? Personally I liked Quakenet but that's just me.
I'm going to throw my hat in for a move to the hcs forums, as per Nisto's suggestion in the VG OST thread:
Perhaps hcs64 forums is a better idea. I'm sure a thread like this would be welcomed. They already have several gamerips there, and it's actually the originating source of many rips that are countlessly transcoded for the download sections here. It might be "boring" with mostly plain text, but you can rest assure there's no funny business going on there - hcs even shares the forum source (which he made himself by the way, and didn't just copy-paste from some BBware). If you're worried about the back-end security of the forum... All I can say is, it's not like you should be posting personal/private details (*cough* or use the same password you use on other sites *cough*) there anyway! The only downside I see for you I guess is that posts on hcs64 can't be edited after 10(?) hours, which means having an index post won't exactly be possible. But I guess you could make it a point to have a very standard/strict layout of text for posts with uploads so they are easier to find...

My opinions:
-the new site should have nothing to do with FFShrine, in the name or implied... maybe name it like Video Game Music Downloads or something
-seeing that Sarah tried to take down sites in the past (eg. on that Gamer Gate board, leading to the retaliation of people reporting FFShrine to the advertisers), we have to make sure it's super secure and not easy to report
-I don't think HCS or a Chan-type site is any good for this type of thing.... a standard forum like vBulletin would be best IMO
-Once we have a site open we should redirect people there through our download links, like in the lossless thread, to make sure the migration is successful and no one's left behind.
zaykho seems to have a site already that sounds promising, btw.

I Think we should name it FFShrine 2.0 - Extra Copyright Violations! OH and go get ****ed Sarah! (PS comes get us 8chan & RIAA!), and use the exact same vBull template.

That got a good chuckle out of me, but now the user zaykho is making renovations to an entirely better website, it's still not finished yet but I'm excited!

nothing is happening to ffshrine. we're keeping things up and as is, and this will hopefully be the last time we need to ask for donations. i'm seeking out new advertisers as we speak.

Unless GH hosted lossless music... but then again those large gigabytes of music would most likely add to the expenses.

I think that it would benefit everyone to wait things out before completely disappearing... That's their choice, though.
It's disheartening to see a community torn in half and taking it out on someone who is doing their best to maintain functionality. Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that there's some dubiety surrounding the shutdown, but I don't see how using that as a justification to make personal jabs is worthwhile, even if it is out of frustration. Immediacy is such an overrated necessity, and causes people to lose their sense of composure too often.

I would like to point out that this is THE spot to nab stuff. Most everything is posted here first, and this is the only public site that sees the benefit of session leaks. If we all scatter, it is unlikely all needs are gonna get met. Leave if you must, but shrine is THE site, I am telling you.

We either stay together here, or scatter. Is there even a third option?
Like, one big lifeboat via collab, which is the exact point of these threads?

IF you want to quote me, please do not edit my quote into something I did not say or even suggest.

I didn't realize until now that a rephrased quote, especially when the original is already right above making the whole quoting pointless, can be used to reflect how one's words are actually comprehend by others, which is helpful for clarifying and correcting misapprehensions.
With no disrespect, just so you know.
Then again, THE place is not FFShrine itself, but WHERE its community is. Most of the "big players" in the uploading league are already down for jumping ship, or at least looking for a Plan B.
Amanda

Yeap. But "Plan B" has been tossed around for years. I know of several "plan B" sites. Most are really quiet, with limited activity due to the restrictive access. If I ever saw a real alternative to shrine I could get interested. But you've too many cooks in the kitchen, and for it to really place here, it would have to be open to the public and vital, living. I have not seen any sign of that working out in past attempts. Everyone wants so much "control" and for things to be how they think they ought be. It restricts the fluidity that is found here.

Yeah because the Shrine still managed to linger until now somehow, but this time we're finally exposed to some "vital matters" and most would doubt if we could really last another "fiscal quarter" or two.

You do realize the site has been around long before your join date of 2007, yes? That before the Downloads subforum was added, this site had existed as a fan forum/fansite and, imho, should've remained as such.

As to current money matters, I have no way to judge. As to personal issues, none of my business. But I hardly would say the shrine is "lingering". Nothing (rarely anyway) posts at sites like Paradox and Bolt before they post on shrine. And those who leak the sessions post them almost exclusively here, at least as far as public sites go. This is the daily go to site for a majority of folks. And, there are a fair amount of social connections too. I am not opposed to new sites, why would I be. I just would not characterize the shrine as sinking or lingering. And, I do not understand why we need the adversarial bent to the discussions, ya know?

We all know the Download subforum is costly enough, but why did Sarah still insist on keeping the Expensive Hotel instead of just dropping it?
I hardly would say the Shrine is "lingering". We sure have enough funds.
I agree with you that FFShrine shouldn't be FF in name only, but we're on the same boat. Sarah is still having trouble with the bills in the long run.

Don't presume to think you have the right to reword what someone has said, Vrantheo. I honestly don't give a rat's ass about the download section for various reasons which I will not go into detail. So quit trolling and if you must quote someone, quote their post word for word instead of rewriting it how YOU perceive it.

I do not understand the persistent personal slights though? This he/she shit is old. Sarah presents herself as female, interacts as female and in our modern "enlightened" world I see no reason not to address her as such. Just basic general humane thoughts, ya know? Splitting into your own site is your right. I see no reason for it to be acrimonious. But then, there's no real reason to rewrite my posts, and yet you persist.

Since the beginning I've claimed no hostility towards you or anyone else, but do YOU perceive so? No?
See? That's the importance of exchanging viewpoints.
I keep rephrasing your quotes so you can check if your ideas get across well and make further corrections when they're misunderstood (like what I'm doing right now), and you're welcome to do the same to me so I can get feedbacks. It's not different from asking you directly "so you want to mean ********, right?"
