This is a score I’ve loved ever since I bought the full length Italian LP back in the 1970s. The later Legend CD recreated that album presentation very nicely. When Cinephile issued their CD I couldn’t resist buying it to see if it sounded any better, and it does - it seems to just sparkle with clarity, though there’s nothing actually wrong with the previous version.

Unfortunately the Cinephile CD has two major drawbacks.

Firstly, it is missing three tracks:

• Under Surveillance
• The Plot
• On The Trail

--over 8 minutes of great music.

Secondly, it messes about with the music, inexplicably lengthening some tracks by artificially repeating sections. I suspect this is the work of Paul Fishman, who is a musician himself and the son of music producer Jack Fishman. I think Paul did this to the MARSEILLE CONTRACT CD as well.

Anyway, after decades of listening to the LP, the repeated loops on the Cinephile CD just sound weird and unnatural to my ears. I kept wishing I could take the Cinephile tracks (which otherwise sound great) and edit out all those clunky repeats so that the tracks match the previous versions … and that’s exactly what I’ve done.

The version you see here is the Cinephile CD, with those six tracks restored to their proper lengths. The three missing tracks have been added from the Legend CD.
