Sir Carol Reed’s 1968 film of Lionel Bart’s stage musical OLIVER! is one of the most beloved motion pictures of all time. John Green’s brilliant adaptation, orchestration and conducting of the score is one of the film’s greatest assets and the Colgems/RCA sound track LP, which offered about 50 minutes of music, was a best seller for years. Strangely though, although the LP went out of print during the 1980s the album has never been released on CD in the United States. A CD was released in 1990 & 1998 in Europe which was unfortunately a carbon copy of the LP master with no additional material. The sound quality on all versions of the soundtrack since the original LP is not very good and to make matters worse the vocal track was mixed underneath the stereo orchestral tracks, which placed the voices so deep in the mix that the orchestra sometimes drowns out the singers. The new BluRay/DVD release of the film has great sound and this new remix of OLIVER! is from a 3 track copy of the film's orchestra and vocal separation master and expanded from the recent BluRay music & effects master for about 10 per cent of the added material which brings this version to over 70 minutes, essentially the entire song & dance score as heard in the film, 90 per cent of which is minus any dialogue or foley effects. The overall sound of both the movie mix and soundtrack albums of OLIVER! have always sounded a bit “hot”, which is sometimes harsh but I have tried to minimize this harshness as much as possible. I hope you enjoy this newly remixed and expanded version of one of the most magical soundtrack albums ever and a tribute to the wonderful, inventive tunes of Lionel Bart combined with the musical genius of John Green, truly a match made in musical heaven.

Sony released a CD in 2005 in the United States but again it was just the standard 14 track version that's been released for years in Europe.

Thank you. You can't believe how happy this made me. Oliver was the first sound track album I ever bought in '68. I had been hoping for an expanded version ever since.
And now... listen. :D

Splendid! Many thanks indeed. Can't beat Ron Moody, Shani Wallis and Jack Wild in these roles.

(Hmm, just noticed this is MP3 320K. Thanks, but I think that should be noted in the listing.)

Many thanks for this and I wonder if you wouldn't mind uploading the clean orchestra tracks as well, as I'm a big fan of that sort of thing. Many thanks.

Thanks for this much-improved remastering.

I've long known and loved the film, and the music (seen the musical twice live with the same cast in recent years). But when I finally got the album of the 1968 film I was shocked how horrendous the sound quality was. I couldn't bring myself to listen to it more than once.

Now I can!

I would love to hear what you've done with this score as the album was always rather disappointing sound-wise. Unfortunately the link doesn't work - is there any chance you could do a re-post? Many thanks.
