NOTES
El Greco, born Domenikos Theotokopoulos (1541 7 April 1614), was a painter,
sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. "El Greco" ("The Greek")
was a nickname, a reference to his Greek origin, and the artist normally
signed his paintings with his full birth name in Greek letters, Δομήνικος
Θεοτοκόπουλος (Domenikos Theotokopoulos), often adding the word Κρής
(Kres, "Cretan").
El Greco ranks among Morricone's most beautiful music. The Maestro scored
this in 1966, the same year he did "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" for
instance. Talk about sheer versatility!
It's sometimes a demanding listen, but the listener is rewarded with many
bounties: incredibly sad yet luminous string elegies, mixed choir writing,
organ solos. It's really stunning. It's sort of manic-depressive music.
But that's just the sort of stuff we crave from the Italian Master!
There's a great balance in the music between darkness and beauty
- a quality that echoes the work of the painter - and which is illustrated
by Morricone in a blend of strings, woodwinds, and voices!
El Greco is some score: beautiful, powerful, rich and moving. GDMs release
adds about twenty minutes of music to the original half-hour album.
I have included complete artwork, screenshots, paintings, info
and track list in the file.

Ithaca
Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.
Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
