So, this was released today - I managed to pick it up yesterday (i've got a friend at my local EB ^^;).

I am really, really excited by this. I always wanted to play through the original Final Fantasies, but I never had time to sit down at the TV and play through Origins - and honestly, they look ugly on my 68cm TV =/

On the Gameboy though, it's perfect - I haven't had a new Gameboy game to pique my interest for a while, and this will be the first full-length RPG (two!) i'll have on my system - both Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Sword of Mana were woefully short. I started playing through Final Fantasy last night, and the production values are to the same high standard of Origins with an even better translation.

I recommend these games to anyone who owns a GBA.

I didn't realize this was coming out until yesterday (I must be losing my grip on the gaming industry). In any case, I am super excited. I bought my GBA SP about a year ago for Crystal Chronicles and still don't own any GBA games. I will definetely be purchasing this on Monday when it comes out, I can't wait to be able to play SNES quality Final Fantasies again. I can't wait.

You don't have any GBA games? There are heaps of good quality ones out there - if you like SNES RPGS, I suggest you check out Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Sword of Mana as well.

Also, if you don't mind 'not serious' games, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is a brilliant RPG on its own.

Damn you Lee, you actually get your hands on a video game before I. My grubby hands won't get this game until either tomorrow or Tuesday, but you can bet that I'm getting it for sure!

Don't have the cash for it right now but in the near future my DS will be gettingg some retro love. I just saw a commercial for Dawn of Souls, quite well done. It was in the current style of GBA commercials, y'know the camera spinning around a guy playing while things go on around him. I do have origins but like Raidenex I rarely have time to sit and play at the TV anymore so if they make a game portable I'm 10x more likely to play.

Just picked this up today at EB Games, wasn't even planning on purchasing it today but just happened to be in the mall and had to check if they had it... turns out they had just got it in 10 minutes before I walked in the store and I was the first to buy a copy. It is an incredibly fun game. I recommend it.

Also tried the DS in the store, two were hooked up so a friend and I played Metroid Prime Hunters multiplayer. Quite fun.

wait, so, 1 and 2 (2 being the original 4) being released together..is it on one cartridge? and slapping on 'Dawn of souls' makes it sound like 2 is a direct sequal to 1 o_0

3 (original 6) is being rereleased sometime with nice revamped graphics and stuff too. but why put 1 and 2 together like that??

No, this isn't Final Fantasy IV & VI that were released on the Playstation, or for that matter, FFII & FFIII for the SNES. These are the games that were never released in the U.S. before recently, and they are the Japanese versions.

FF1 - nes - same in America & Japan
FF2 - nes - in japan (no early american release)
FF3 - nes - in japan (no american release)
FF4 - snes - in japan (FF2 in america)
FF5 - snes - in japan (later released in america)
FF6 - snes - in japan (FF3 in America)
FF7 onward is the same in America & Japan

FF 1 & 2 are the REAL 1 & 2. They were released as a pack in FF: Origins for the playstation (upgraded though) and are the same ones for Dawn of Souls (DoS includes 4 extra dungeons though, and other changes). The other FF's besides FF3 were released in America eventually.

FF3 is being released for the Nintendo DS soon.

When I say FF3 I DON'T mean the American FF3 (which is FF6)
and when I say FF2 I DON'T mean the American FF2 (which is FF4)

got it?

yes! i get it. thankyou

so the REAL 1&2 were revamped and released in FF:Origins, and now are being revamped again and released as DoS?

all the meanwhile there was already an american FF2 which was actualy 4.
so doesn't that mean we have two different 2s?

Don't forget ff2 and ff3 for the Japanese Famicom system

Yes but no one calls FF4 FF2 anymore. It is commonly called FF4 in most places.

-----

Yeah, in Japan the NES is the Famicom and the SNES is the Super Famicom. I just wanted to keep it simple.

Hey I just bought this game tonight and I think it is great so far! The pirates were much harder, a few of my people almost died. They have a lot more HP in DoS.

I figured I would go through it with a normal party because so many people are talking about how you have to be level 99 to beat the special dungeons. I picked Monk, Monk, White Mage, and Black Mage. I like fighters a LOT more, but Monks will have higher attack by endgame, so anything to help...

I bought it yesterday and I really like what they did with it! I haven't really played FF2, but FF1 is great in DoS.

I got it yesterday and I am annoyed because i am on the final boss and before it the game was EASY but the final boss is exteremly hard.

are you sure it's not that you didn't level up enough?

FF1Fighter
12-27-2004, 07:51 AM
of course it will be easy when you get to the final boss if you level up enough. The game did go downhill in the NES version once you got past astos. It wasn't such a jump in NES, but they upped the last boss's HP by 6x or 10x!

They Soul of Chaos dungeons are even harder than the last boss I've heard.

Just think of it as a challenge. You can level up easily with the eye (I think, you could in NES) in the Ice cave as long as you have the ribbons and the ProRings. If you go back and forth on the square he appears on then he should reappear for you to fight.

Alternately if you have a black or white mage you can level up in the last boss's dungeon, then WARP (black) or EXIT (white) out. They might be called different things, but you should be able to figure it out.

Yes, you can. It actually does some damage to you now rather than just trying to kill you instantly and failing. I got all the way to level 45 before I ever left the ice cave.

I got dawn of souls a couple days after it came out. I managed to beat final fantasy 1 in a total of 6 days. I managed to get to the very end of final fantasy 2. But the emperor slaughtered. So I left to train using Ultima and Holy.
