I've read somewhere that there are around 10 tracks missing, is that true?
Not sure if ten exactly, but yes, some are missing. Based on a quick glance, I couldn't find these moments:
-Korath has returned/Gamora sent to retrieve the Orb
-Corpsman Dey reads Guardians' charges
-Sacrifice (film version)
-Quill and Gamora in Ravager ship (which could be included as an insert at the end of 'Sacrifice')
-Ronan wields the Infinity Stone
-Marvel Studios Fanfare
The track 'Ronan Arrives' appears to be an original version for that scene. The track titled 'Ronan's Arrival' in the OST was tracked in on its place, but it belongs to the scene where Ronan assaults the Kyln. Said track is also missing from this set. Additionally, the cue where Gamora and Rocket board the mining pods while Groot stays behind appears tracked in from 'Plasma Ball'.
Also, for those wondering what the StereoMix tracks were, I came up with some titles:
21 - 3m06a Guardians take the Watchtower
22 - 3m06b Rocket's Plan/Watchtower Detached
23 - 3m06c Head Back to the Milano
25 - 3m10 A Great Companion (Alternate)*
29 - 4m07 Gamora's Story (original version?)
37 - 5m07 Drax Blasts Nebula (this track should be moved after track 43)
44 - 6m07 Yondu vs. Sakaarans
45 - 6m08 Nebula Fights Gamora
48 - 7m03 Ronan Survives Hadron Enforcer/Rocket Crash
50 - 7m06 Ronan's Speech
*: in relation to the track 'The Great Companion' in the OST; both unused in the film.
It's worth mentioning that whilst changing titles I noticed that the StereoMix tracks are labeled as 'complete score', whereas the rest of the tracks are labeled as 'Recording Sessions'. Hope any of this helps :)

It looks like these are lossy, even though they're ALAC files. Here are the spectrograms for "Groot Spores":

Obviously the CD copy is better. But I think the sound difference is probably negligible.

Whoa... I totally missed that Morag was different. I basically started listening with 'The Bounty' and forgot to play the previous three tracks xD
As far as I could tell, 'The New Meat' in the album is 'The Kyln' in the sessions though. The track 2m12 itself belongs to the subsequent scene where Rocket and Groot stand up for Quill, and Gamora enters her cell.
'Take her to the showers' in the sessions is the beginning of 'Sanctuary' in the album.
'What a Bunch of A-Holes' in the album is matched with tracks 2m07a, b and c, respectively. Similarly, 'Busted' on the album matches 'Nova Headquarters'.
In all honesty, it's kinda crappy when sessions use the same titles as the official score but on different tracks. It drives me nuts when that happens, because it implies that what you see is not what you get, and you have to check track by track to see what's different. I remember the IM3 FYC did this too... Hopefully the TWS sessions will not repeat this mistake.

Perhaps the tracks labeled stereomix is just that? A stereo mix of the blurays surround stream?

It's kinda funny how that fanfare grows longer and more sophisticated every time you see it, as does the logo. I remember seeing the TV special they released with the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and apparently Brian Tyler recorded a different version of the fanfare for it
TheSkeletonMan939
03-13-2015, 01:02 AM
Wait, so each composer records the fanfare on his own? I never noticed that. Did Henry Jackman use a version of his own for Winter Soldier (or don't we know?)
Now I wanna listen to Tyler's & Bates' respective versions to catch the differences!

03-13-2015, 01:31 AM
Well, no, or at least not that I know of. I was talking about the TV special that ABC aired last year. Brian Tyler was credited with composing the score for it, and it opens with a different version of the Marvel fanfare. I assume that he's behind the fanfare for Guardians too.

I wouldn't mind seeing it show up, and I'm sure it's making its way through the trading circles.
It was a forgettable score, but there are a few good cues in there I'd love to listen to that I don't think were on the OST.

I think this score is missing Marvel Studios fanfare by Tyler Bates, the film version of Morag, the film version of Guardians Unite, the film version of The Pod Chase, the album version of A Great Companion, album version of Everybody's Got Dead People, the part where Ronan is in the Kyln with Nebula and the part where Ronan uses the Infinity Stone.
Other than that, good job!
AdrFax
04-13-2015, 04:27 PM
As I mentioned elsewhere, the part where Ronan's crew assaults the Kyln is the album version of 'Ronan's Arrival', but it was also tracked in for the scene where Ronan first meets Drax. The 'Ronan's Arrival' cue on this set is probably the original cue for that scene.
