They gave her big breats and made her attracted to an emo loser because they felt that this was going to be a pretty good way to get the emo losers out there to buy the game.

They made Aeris fall in love with Cloud so as not to offend people who though Tifa was degrading to women.

They killed off Aeris because they realized those people offended by Tifa were not their target audience so there was no need to have her in the game anymore.
