It’s official – Christophe Beck to score Marvel’s ANT-MAN (http://filmmusicreporter.com/2015/01/06/christophe-beck-to-score-marvel-studios-ant-man/)
So, what are people’s thoughts?! I’m really excited to see what Beck has to offer the superhero genre!
Henry Jackman(the composer of Captain Am. 2) is a composer that polarized people, about whether his work in Winter Soldier was great or not, but at least he composed in a couple of big action/thriller movies like Kick Ass, X-men and Captain Philips.(and working in Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions)
Christophe Beck has made scores to many light-headed movies (rom-com etc), but he composed the score to "Edge of Tomorrow", so there is a slight hope he’ll make it.
Personally, I would have preferred the other Chris – Christopher Drake (my favorite score from him is Batman – The Dark Knight Returns).
Also, I would’ve loved to see what Steven Price could have brought to the table here, but he’s long gone after Edgar Wright split up with Marvel. Maybe he ultimately was too heavy a composer for a movie that seems to be kinda light-headed?
On the positive side, it’s good that they don’t re-use Brian Tyler, Henry Jackman nor Alan Silvestri too often. But… I don’t know.
My point is that the Marvel Cinematic Movies seems to have it’s own flavour, and I do like the different styles. But I don’t want a blockbuster-score that overshadows all the movies from the Cinematic universe. I don’t want the movies to sound like they were made by the same composer (Brian Tyler’s drums).
Here is my short overview of the different styles:
Iron Man 1 & 2: Bass, Electric guitar.
Cap Am. 1: Horns, Orchestral. (recognisable theme)
Thor 1: Epic Orchestral (Godlike?)
The Avengers: Epic Orchestral & Electrical (recognisable Theme)
Iron Man 3: Brian Tyler Drums and some strings.
Thor 2: Brian Tyler’s Epic Drums/Orchestral
Cap Am. 2: Electronic/Ambience/Orchestral.
GuardiansOTG: Various Artists/Incidental orchestral with recognisable themes (A Nova Upgrade, The Great Companion) (sometimes reminds me a bit of Eric Serra’s "Fifth Element")
What I’m trying to say, is that there are several of the Marvel movies that has a recognisable theme(or several) for the movie, but some of them are also kinda bland – you could use one score for the other movie without anyone noticing BIG differences.
I really hope that Mr. Beck can add a different colour on the Marvel-theme-mosaic.
In fact i’ve never heard a really good score by Beck, except maybe for Percy Jackson, the rest are usually just okay. I really hope he’ll prove me wrong, like Tyler Bates did with Guardians of the Galaxy. I still think Price was a more interesting choice.
What’s this about a movie called "Elektra"?
Lol… 😉
Seriously though, what is it? Anything to do with Electro from Spider-Man?

Sorry, I didn’t realize you were being serious.
Elektra is an assassin, usually an enemy/lover of Daredevil. Nothing to do with Electro.
She was played by Jennifer Garner in Daredevil and then in her own movie Elektra in 2005, and it’s one the worst comic book movie i’ve ever seen.

Daredevil is thought of by many as one of the worst superhero movies ever. Was Elektra worse??
And Daredevil is Marvel, right? So Elektra is Marvel too?

Daredevil is bad, the Director’s cut is okay though, but Elektra is just painful to watch (apart from Garner who’s pretty hot!).
Yes Daredevil and elektra are Marvel characters.
Daredevil will soon be a part of the MCU thanks to the Netflix show that will debut in April, and for which i can’t wait. Elektra will hopefully show up in future seasons.

Sounds good!
Just a quick update on this thread; I liked the Ant-man theme (even though it reminded me abit of the Mission Impossible 1 theme), and it did differentiate from the other Marvel themes, something I mentioned above that I hoped it would.
The theme could easily be integrated into other Marvel themes, should he be in the next Avengers movies. I liked how he used the 7/8 tempo instead of the good ol’ 4/4, again, different than the other guys @ Marvel Music.
One thing I really liked with the score is that it amplified the experience watching the movie. It might be the first Marvel movie that has this sense of wonder about things we normally don’t think much about…..like ants! 🙂

I still need to see the movie, but I can’t wait! Looking forward to hearing the score in context when I do. 🙂 7/8 is such a cool time signature.
You haven’t seen it yet?!
Boy, am I glad I edited some of my sentences before publishing the post; I wrote about specific scenes where I thought the music really suited well and about the general tone of the movie. Now I’m feeling relieved that I stayed neutral with the post. 😀
But yeah, go see it, man.

Haha thanks for the consideration! I will see it as soon as I can, which will be as soon as I’ve seen IM3, The Dark World, The Winter Soldier, GOTG, and Age of Ultron!!
Wait, you haven’t seen them, either?
I guess you must’ve had your hands full in your spare time to not order pizza/sushi/etc, get some cold drink and lay your butt down on the coach to witness the continuation of the glorious story of the MCU. 😉

You could say.
You’re in for a treat. I found Ant-Man genuinely hilarious, as opposed to humor forced in to other superhero films. Plus it was a very good film. Sure, it’s a cookie-cutter plot, but still a whole lot of fun.
"We Sould Call the Avengers" and the Scene on the Toy Train Where it Looks As Though It Will Crush Hime But Falls off the Track

Yeah, that’s just one of the many, many gags of the film. It’s just a fun movie, like GotG. No gloom and doom.
