That's really impressive. Just a small suggestion - Can you increase the volume at 0:23 when the percussion and the ticking kicks in? Because it sounds a bit lower in volume than the other parts especially when the organ starts.

I like it for the most part, the choir should be there at the end though... without it, well it's just not the same. The choir is the driving force like in Mountains, but even much more intesified in this track.

taken from OP:

"impossible to add Vocals from Mountains, part contains slightly different chord progression/incompatible with "no time for caution", track mountains is mostly brass and not much organ as well so it doesn't really help anyway"

but still even if it takes me having to rip audio channels from bluray I will get those vocals and organs somehow.

I know how difficult it is (worked for months on my TTRL version). Without a proper source, like the RS, we'll never have the exact film version.

Example, Journey to the Line is to this day still not the exact same film version, even with all the variations and alternates from the RS. The taiko's were seriously toned up in the final mix.

Wow, this is extremely cool. If I can make a suggestion to have the end a bit higher volume so it's more of a climax, just before it loses a bit in power (at the 3:40 mark). I tried it myself with the envelope function in Cool Edit Pro and IMO it's more in sync with the buildup just before it.

But still great work already to give us something resembling the film version so closely.

Seconding this, and there should be starker contrast in volume starting at 2:35. Right now the transition seems a little waify... If that makes sense. Incredible work, dude!

11-24-2014, 01:00 PM
Okay, so all versions of this are pretty damn close to what we hear in the film, which is pretty excellent and a job well done guys.
But if you're aiming to match the original even more closely, perhaps consider these suggestions:

- At 2:35, it should be a louder transition. Not overbearingly loud, but enough to make an impact. Listen to Track 08 - Mountains as mastered on the album. At 1:33, when the 'horn of doom' kicks in, the volume increases quite staggeringly. It should have this kind of impact.

- The organ needs to be far more prominent, but rather than be sustained through each bar, it should tail off. When those organ notes hit, it should be really powerful, then tail off to reveal more of the strings beneath before hitting hard again on the next bar. Actually, if you listen to the original version as ripped from the film, it sounds almost like those organ hits are only sustained for about 2 seconds each, then released entirely. So when they hit again, the impact is maximised - that's how i hear it anyway.

Just my thoughts - not being negative here as the work you've done so far is fantastic. But you asked for feedback so here it is :)

That's show biz.

For years, film critics gave special praise to the abrupt, nihilistic ending of Robert Aldrich's "Kiss Me Deadly". Then it was discovered that in the original release the director's ending was a minute longer and not really either of those things.

Tweaked Dynamics
Reworked the whole track (volume, re-enforced more parts toward the beginning, so the beginning will sound a lot fatter, etc.)

This WAV is still lossy sourced, it would seem. There is spectral degradation from about 16,000hz upwards. Is this because you used the original MP3 files as a basis before you added your own overlays? The audio is also a little clipped.

i was testing with several different weights and the idea was to have the quote convey the sheer panic of the moment surrounding cooper while he keeps to protocol. compressed and condensed looked ok but it was like this tiny squeaky voice was whispering it in his ear. i like how the text overflows over the borders of the image(thats the only thing i like about this weight), in it it achieves the objective but looks dreadful. thought about changing font families but the campaign pretty much stood fast by didot, anything else would look weird. anyway, i'll try some other variants and see if something strikes.

Basically anything can "reliably" convert to FLAC.
If you're on Windows, that is.
Any other OS, I can see your problem.

Foobar2000 is neat but not for beginners.
Download foobar2000 and optional components (http://www.foobar2000.org/download)

>> foobar2000: Free Encoder Pack (http://www.foobar2000.org/encoderpack) << includes FLAC encoder.

But, it should be noted that FLAC just got a 1.3.1 release very recently with major bugfixes/improvements.

No, most software out there that can encode to FLAC use the same libraries as the original FLAC code.
The only thing that's tricky if you're ripping from CD. Exact Audio Copy requires deligent settings to rip accurately.

But, since this is an edited project, you don't need to worry about all that stuff since it applies to CD ripping only.

NEW RELEASE

Version 4.0 - 4.1

Boosted low end significantly (you should be able to easily tell)
Lots of fixes after hunting down volume anomalies
Made the first half of "No Time For Caution" much more audible in the beginning, uses less of "Day One Dark", but can easily still hear the best parts from both.
Now using 98% LOSSLESS sources, thanks to those who provided them to me! (This means a lot of my editing work was re-worked from scratch to replace the lossy sources)
Sounds fatter/bigger/louder like the rest of the OST.
Ending has been tweaked to sound as close to perfect as possible.
All transitions are now accurate
Added piano transition from film version that goes before organ crescendo.
All arpeggios are now way closer in the mix instead of being in the background and hard to hear.
Proper dynamics have been realized for the guitar/organ starting at 2:00.
String stem is easier to hear

Note: Still no source for earlier vocals

Re-balanced all volumes again, mostly for the middle and the end
added a new transition at 2:00 so that it didn't feel like it just dropped into an empty part of the track or something.
I re-worked the strings at the end and the outro is stronger
Turned up the Organ
Fixed all Grand Piano hits

Zippyshare is fast and easy (with AdBlock) for smaller files that don't need archiving. Max 200 MBs and deleted after 30 days of inactivity. But as i said, they have fast download speeds and it's just one click, no waiting times :)

EDIT: And besides, you don't happen to have any of the older versions? It would be fun to compare your progress to at least the first version

I guess you forgot how to read, friend.

It IS a demo that I wrote. I just sat down and shit out the whole part in like an hour just to be able to hear the organ part clearly.

It is a demo. I just sat down and wrote the whole part down in like an hour just to be able to hear the organ part clearly.

No I can read. I know it's different. I'm just saying I like your current version (4.4) better than this one

Yourfavoratemusic

It's not going to replace anything and I never said it would.

"Some people wanted to hear what this part sounded like without a whole bunch of muddiness and up close, so I wrote in all of the notes from scratch and put this together, mocking it up using samples for those people.

This should also be proof enough that the real "No Time For Caution" is using samples as well."

I left out a lot of important stems on purpose

Showing up without reading what the description said and calling it shit and saying "I prefer 4.4" (who cares?), is in no way a compliment in my eyes.

I frankly don't give a damn what anyone thinks of my work, but at least try to know what the fuck is going on

DAKoftheOTA

calling it shit

Now you're putting words in my mouth. I never said that. All I said was that I didn't like the demo you just made (which you shouldn't be insulted because as you just said, you don't give a damn what anyone thinks) and that I prefer the film version you've continued pouring your time and effort into as you update it (which you also shouldn't give a damn about). I never said your work is shit, and I never call people's work shit. That's harsh, even for me.

There's a "Banned" status underneath his name...damn. I was hoping he could use the FLAC of No Time for Caution from the Illuminated Star set so he can have a newer higher quality source to work with. It also sounded like Tick-Tock may have useful elements to take from as well.

Here is a reupload of the mixes put together by TylerakaSyn. I hope its OK to reupload - all original credit goes to him. I downloaded pretty much every mix he did but only kept four versions. Included in the archive are two versions of the "Film Version". They have the date I downloaded them in the file name. There are also the two final versions of the Endurance Edit (how TylerakaSyn though it should sound; not focused on staying true to the film version). One is 70% faster and one is normal speed.
