Unfortunately, it's an unmitigated disaster. Recorded too late in her life, her voice is thin and screechy.

I hate to say it, but perhaps you're not wrong. This is probably not her finest moment. But hey, let's not call her voice thin and screechy, let's just say it has lots of character...

In the contrary: Wimpel is spot on, and polite as he is he even put it mildly.....too mildly to be exact!

I found also the voice performance of Katharine Hepburn a little difficult at first, but it's interesting to notice that others gave more relevance to the character aspect: her work in this album got it a nomination for a Grammy award (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Best_Spoken_Word_Album) in 1988 in the category of Best Spoken Word.
The scans provided by vyj are here (
http://musicbrainz.org/release/29a057c7-4c74-4a44-b7eb-9e44032c4740/cover-art) along with scans of the booklet, which includes a transcription of her words. In my case, knowing what she says made the thing much better! :)
Thank you for those addition scans,my friend!
