I was doing some thinking about what lifts an anime (or any other narrative medium, for that matter) up from the others. At first I thought it could be the action, the quality of the animation, the plot, or the sheer coolness. But then, when I was watching Rurouni Kenshin the other day, it struck me (this is going to sound really obvious): what makes a story great is a good character. They have to be likeable, cool, and charismatic. I mean, would you watch Rurouni Kenshin if Kenshin was some boring tough guy? Anyhow, thats my little revelation of the day.

I haven't watched any Ruroni Kenshin movie, TV-show, etc, but I have read manga.
I thought it was quiet good when I read it for the first time, but after having kept reading from the start to about 10th, I started feeling it was kind of boring TO ME, why?
Because the story is, say too typical, if you know what I mean.
Kenshin who seems pretty normal except to have Katana, actually has dark background and sometimes shows a glimpse of it when something dangerous happens to peopoe around him.
The story goes focused on his background and the people whom he meets on his way.
Doesn't it sound so typical? I think it is, well then you are probably thinking I should tell you what my favorite manga is, (No?)
Mine are Vagabond and Soutenkouro, well these two are focused on their leading characters as well, BUT they actually lived on this earth a long long time ago, Miyamoto Musashi and SouSou(shao shao, xiao xiao?)
( I don't have any evidence to proove, but it's obvious, right)
The authors reveal these 2 famous and historic persons in their own way, you know the famous/historic are thought very different by different people, so it's interesting to see what others think of them, and these 2 manga are drawn, organized well done, check em out if you have a chance.
I have nothing against reading/watching Rurouni Kenshin, just spit out what I think about it, it's fun, but not really to me, that's all, peace.
Different stuff to different folks, right?
Actually, the character of Kenshin was modeled after a real person. However, not much is known of the historical figure he's based on, so the character in the anime/manga is almost total fiction.

Do you know his name, if so tell me.
I believe it was Kawakami Gensai.

I went through some websites and it seemed true, Kawakami Gensai is the model of Himura Kenshin, then what I said above seems a bit dumb now.
Anyway, thanks.

I just recently started watching this anime, and I was surprised at how much I liked it. Most animes, don't appeal to me as much, but when I watched this, I wanted to see it again.
