Hey, all you who live in the USA, may have GTA San Andreas yet, I wondered if you could tell me your views on it, or what you have found out about it.

Apparently it takes 3 hours to get form one city to another on a BMX.

Anyone know anything about the missions etc.?
(even if you dint live in the US, tell me any info you have that I may find interesting)

One time some person said to me, "You should check out Grand Theft Auto, it's amazing."

I said, "I have no interest in that game at all."

And they said, "Why not?"

And I said, "Because it doesn't look like the kind of game I'd be interested in."

And they said, "Have you ever played it?"

And I said, "No, I don't want to."

And they said, "How do you know if you've never played it?"

And I said, "How do you know that you wouldn't like chopping off your penis if you've never tried it?"

I think I won! It's kind of like this other conversation I had with a friend of mine recently, where he said I should be embarassed about liking girly romance movies. He said:

"Seriously, you NEED to start being embarassed about that."

And I said, "No I don't."

And he said, "No, you REALLY REALLY need to."

And I said, "Why?"

And he said, "Because it NEVER HAPPENS THAT WAY!"

And I said, "So?"

And he said, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a good movie!"

I think I won!

I would just like to say that I am intensely fascinated at the amount of little boys who come into the Blockbuster I work at just to rent San Andreas. I would say they make up 50% of the people who rent it. Usually their parents are there with them letting them have it. I mean we're talking like twelve year old kids here.

I have to find another job before I start getting clinically depressed.

C+P'd from my summary over at archetype-gaming:

So, I got the newest installment in the GTA series. And I've got mixed feelings.

The main improvement over previous GTA games is the sheer size of the game. It's much bigger than Vice City is, in size at least.

The whole atmosphere doesn't make me happy though. The script so far (Or at least for the first city part) gets on my nerves. In the intro to every mission, it's pretty much "FUCK YO DAWG NIGGA CRACK FO SHO". Games like this make me feel racist. Missions are more of the same, but with a few nice adjustments.

The driving is slightly different as well. Cars are slightly harder to steer, but not to the point of frustration. The new bycicle is pretty nifty.

Now, the character represents an RPG leveling system. Run more, and you get fitter. Swim more, and you can dive underwater for longer. Eat too many burgers (health recovery) and you get fat, and slow down. This is just skimming on details. While its execution is well, you can't help feeling a sense of gimmickness around it. It's as if they've tried to chuck too much stuff into the game.

I'm not too fond of the soundtrack overall, especially compared to Vice City's, which was rather neat. I feel a heavy reliance on hip hop and rap which doesn't suit me, and I personally am not a fan of early 90s music, but this will likely come down to personal taste. The chat station is there, but doesn't seem as good as either of the previous two chat stations.

Overall, I'm happy with the game and will continue to play it, but it's far from the perfect game lauded at such sites as Gamespot and IGN.

I'm going to have to contradict you. The soundtrack absolutely blows away those of GTA3 and Vice City. Depeche mode, Ozzy, and Faith No More? Fantastic.

The whole black-gangsta thing is something I've come to tolerate since I played through the Def Jam games.

I also love the advancement system. Before it felt like there was no rhyme and no reason behind advancement - that you just headed through the story. You didn't gain any new skills. Here it feels as if there's a life you're living as well as a story being driven.

The whole thing as a package feels a great deal more solid than the others did. The story works, and the music is spot on. The commentary on it is also great. "You can't say no to depeche mode. No, really, I spent the entire night arguing with Dave Gaharn."

The first mission is crap, but the rest is great. I'm not saying it's the best thing ever - load times are painful, and the graphics feel a little rough around the edges, and the pathing is buggy, but it's much better than GTA3 or VC.

BTW: Driving is a skill, that's why it's slightly more swervy. You get better.

what kind of game would the gta series go under? action? i've been wondering about that...

Gast

I dunno what you would class it as. I got it on Friday morning and been playing it since then and the map is 5x bigger than Vice City. There's three cities, Los Santos that's teh first where you start, then there's Las Venturas which is based on Las Vegas and San Fierro.

The game is quite like an RPG now. You have your stats such as Muscle, Stamina, Sex Appeal and Respect and you can increase them by going down the gym for example or getting betetr haircuts and tattoos.

The clothes shops are a big part of the game as you can buy clothes for every part of CJ's bpdy and then customize him completely and then there's the addition of the car modification garages where you can buy parts for your car such as Nitro and Hydraulics much like in Need for Speed: Underground.

It's absoloutely and will stay at the top of the charts for months.

You mean until Halo 2 comes out next week.

I bought this on Saturday - it's quite nifty. The original GTA3's missions and storyline could only keep me interested for so long before I started blowing shit up, but so far i've stuck to the missions in SA, as well as some of the minigames on the side.

One thing that really impressed me was the level of customization in your character and your car - and also little touches, like when you walk up to a drink machine, you can actually buy a can.

I like it. But there's only 8 days to go until Halo 2 hits.

Yeah, they are good points, but in my view I think GTA: SA will stay at the top. IT was voted the most awaited game EVER last week in the UK. And Halo came 2nd, but that doesn't mean it will. It may well do. We'll wait and see!!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Halo 2 not reach the top of the charts, at least not straight away, mainly because of PS2 to Xbox ratio.

I've unlocked the country and San Fierro and I'm doing random missions for this hillarious slag.

and the radios hilarious, anyone else hear this commercial?
somethin to do with a security system for ur house or somethin

"why call the cops, it takes them an average of 35 minutes to respond to a call. By then, a burgular can break into your house, have his way with your wife, smoke a cigarette, and then flip her over and go in for seconds"

that shit was hilarious

This game is great, the only thing I have against it that it's set in the early 90's and so far I've yet to hear the greatest early 90's song there is... "I'm too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt, so sexy yeah."

Also, if you should be arested in the first city do not, I repeat do not go into the shower in the police station, very disturbing.

Ah, Halo 2 doesn't really stand a chance against GTA:SA, chartwise.

The reasons being the higher market penetration of PS2, and the fact that GTA is popular with a hugely diverse range of people. Basically, EVERY male up until about 30. At least.

I don't know, the characters have always seemed weak in Grand Theft Auto. The main character in III was probably the best because he didn't have an attitude you could love or hate.

Tommy of Vice City got too pissed off at everything and Carl is just not as much of a badass as I'd like him to be (though you can change his looks and stuff)

The game is really not bad at all. They've improved a lot of what the Grand Theft Auto fans wanted but as always the fans are saying they wanted more.

Haha - I just finished Sweet's Doberman mission, which unlocks the Gang War gameplay style... I can finally see why this game got such high ratings.

I could spend hours just fighting for turf. There's something satisfying about being a one-man army with an AK-47 gunning down wave after wave of ganstas defending their territory.

Seeing that flashing-red territory on the map turn green is definately a high point for me. Things that annoyed me about the game before (like the hospital being RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of Balla turf) have turned into strategic elements - what areas should I take over first? Where do I need safe houses?

The ability to recruit a gang with respect makes the gang wars even more interesting, as you're standing there with your crew gunning down any bitches that come your way. When one of your crew falls, you feel for him.

Seriously. Great game.
