I've got two very substantial, progressing threads/blogs on this board, COULD BE CLASSICAL MUSIC and THE CONCERTO COLLECTION.

In view of occasional hacks, offtime and threats that without enough funds this board might enter nirwana, I'm pondering how I can possibly, and most easily, SAVE all the work I've invested here for possible future use on another board, if necessary.

Is there a software that can save the entire contents of a thread, as HTML e.g.?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, wimpel69 :)

If you mean downloading a backup of ALL your threads and posts, sorry, that's not an option. Why would you want a specific software, when you can pretty much save entire HTML pages with every browser? Once done, it's not hard to view the source code.

Here are some personal tricks I've been using everytime I needed to save an entire multi-page thread of this board. Let's suppose you need to save a thread like this:

Thread 121142

Trick #1: if you want to show 1000 posts in a single page - without pics (replaced with links to the pics) or signatures, avatars, likes... (printer-friendly trick)

then simply add:

-print/?pp=1000

at the end of the url, replacing the last "/" character, so that you have:

http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/king-kong-deluxe-edition-james-newton-howard-121142-print/?pp=1000

Trick #2: if you want to show 1000 posts in a single page - with pics and all the rest

then simply add:

?pp=1000

at the end of the url, after the last "/" character, so that you have:

http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/king-kong-deluxe-edition-james-newton-howard-121142/?pp=1000

Remember: After having chosen trick # 1 or 2, expand all the spoilers, if present! Otherwise some content will still be hidden when saving the page. Just press CTRL+F and search for the "spoiler" (withouth quotes) term. Once found, expand it.

Finally you could save the page in two ways:

PDF - press CTRL+P, then choose "Save as PDF". I confirm that, by using Chrome, the saved pdf will retain the clickable links in the thread.

HTML - press CTRL+S.

I hope to have been of help! ;)

That's actually a nifty little trick. Maybe I'll have use for that one day - thanks for the tip.

There's also a freeware program: HTTrack

It copies sites in HTML, complete with pictures and crap.

But it can very messy since it can scan as deep as you want it to.
Since most sites rely on a third-party to host images, you'll want to scan at least 2 levels deep.
But scanning deeper usually gets you garbage from the hosting site (their advertisments, promo etc).

The print trick looks the best.
I gave up on HTTrack years ago.

Brilliant. Works perfectly. Thanks a bunch! :D

My trick has been a success, so I've added another one! See my first post. As always, likes or reps are appreciated! :D

Doesn't seem to work anymore though: Now I get a http code that includes a "Showthread" tag - and adding the suffix won't get me 1,000 posts anymore.

It's now unnecessary. Click on "Settings" in the top right of your screen. Then click on "General Settings" on the left side of your screen. Then set "Show 1,000 Posts Per Page."

Yep, that works great. Gotta save my progress before ending my contributions here.
