Not many details as yet - but basically, FF3 is finally getting an official remake, and it seems that it will be the most extensive remake so far, taking advantage of the Nintendo DS' touch screen ability.

Somehow everyone knows its going to come out for the PS1. They did it with every other classic, so this one wont be a exception. Btw, it will be much much much better on the PSP, or atleast the PS2. just to let you know, SONY RULES.

Actually, they're not re-releasing it on the PSone - they're changing the gameplay so it can take advantage of the DS' touch screen. The only way that you will be able to play FF3 is on the DS.
Oh, and keep in mind that FF3 is a sprite-based game that could run on the GBA, so honestly, there would be no advantage having it on the PSP. Square Enix is giving PSP owners FF7: Advent Children, so I wouldn't complain.
Anthony, they scrapped the WonderSwan code, but they are using a lot of the translation they had begun for that - it's a brand new project.

BTW, FFVII Advent Children is a movie. You can buy it for the PSP (UMD) or/and you can buy it on a DVD that any DVD player can play. So its not a PSP only movie.
And I imagine Square will re-release it for the PS1 later on, they really have to because they did with anyother game and there contract is mostly with Sony, so Sony will negotiate a PS1 release of FFIII, just wait and see.

No shit, sherlock. But you don't see them releasing a version for the Nintendo DS, do you?

Thank you for showing us your complete ignorance of the gaming industry. Square Enix does not have a contract with Sony - if they wanted to, they could release their games on all three systems like EA does. But they don't - because they know that porting games from system to system makes a reduction in quality.
Square Enix games are all about production value - the additional cost to ensure that a PlayStation2, GameCube and Xbox version of Final Fantasy XII remain as polished as each other does not justify the expense.
The PlayStation2 was chosen by Square Enix because the PlayStation proved itself in the last console war as the premier RPG console - there is simply not a market on the GameCube or the Xbox for this style of RPG. That's being shown currently by the less-than-expected sales of Tales of Symphonia, and the luke-warm reaction to Fable.
What does all this lead to? Final Fantasy III will not be re-released on the PSone. The PSone is currently in the very final stages of it's run - it's lasted a long time, but with the arrival of the PStwo (sorry... the 'PS2 Slim'), it has been superceded. The only Sony system that it would possible be ported to is the PS2 - and it would be a direct port, perhaps with a couple of cutscenes - just like Final Fantasy Origins was a direct port of the WonderSwan titles.
Now, you're going to say "It happened to them, why can't it happen to FF3?" The answer is two fold - one, they're changing the game dynamic, so that it is only playable on the DS platform - ie, two screens, one touch screen. Two, on the DS, they can justify charging full price - only die-hard fans will pay full price for a remake on the PS2, and it wouldn't cover the costs of conversion.
So, instead of sprouting on your "Nintendo suks, Sony rulz" soapbox, step down a minute and realize that no matter what platform it's on - it's still Final Fantasy.

I read that, and I tell you that what you say make sense!
But anyways...I would like to play FF3...but I don't plan to buy a DS for now...I don't have load of money. :-(
One other small note Lee, is S-E also happens to have an impressive set of stock in the Sony company last I checked.
and the luke-warm reaction to Fable.
Fable broke the Xbox first week sales record. It isn't lukewarm. It's super dee duper warm.

They could make new hi-res sprites for the game to make use of the PSP since the DS resolution is pretty low comparatively. I think making use of the DS means simple mini games or something. =|

No shit, sherlock. But you don't see them releasing a version for the Nintendo DS, do you?
See, the thing is, that's why they are also releasing a fucking DVD version of it, the DS cant handle the size of the movie. So therefore its not a PSP only movie, like you said earlier, (along the lines of) 'Its going to be released for the PSP' which ingored the DVD version and made it sound like it was for the PSP only.
So, instead of sprouting on your "Nintendo suks, Sony rulz" soapbox, step down a minute and realize that no matter what platform it's on - it's still Final Fantasy.
And you step down and realize I never said that Sony is better than Nintendo you dumb N-Bomb. Explain why they wont release a PS1 version after they have released a PS1 version of FF1,2,4,5,6? That doesn't make any fucking sense now does it? The reason the release it for the PS1 is because it would be a waste of a fucking DVD disk, the game wont take up no 700mb, so what's the point of putting it on a multi gb DVD?
I rest my case.
the DS cant handle the size of the movie.
Actually, at the DS's resolution it could probably handle the video no problem. I have a 640x480 hour long video that's only 350 MBs on my computer.Cut that resolution in half and the amount of video information reduces by four... so they could easily fit the movie on the DS.
But the DS's resolution isn't ideal for viewing movies. The PSP's is. But getting a video is no big deal and I really don't understand why they're putting it on PSP at all. I'd just get the DVD if I were interested in it.
And you step down and realize I never said that Sony is better than Nintendo you dumb N-Bomb.
N-Bomb? The Playstation has fallen quite a bit in market viability. Releasing the game on the PS2 even if the playstation could handle it just fine means that the game isn't ignored or thrown off into the non-existent playstation shelfspace that stores have now. It'd be like Nintendo releasing their puzzle collection on the N64 since it's obvious that the N64 could handle it no problem on a cartridge and so they'd just be wasting Gamecube disk space. The game will do better if put on the PS2, and they can just put it out as a PS2 CD if they don't want to waste DVD space.

At any rate, it'll be cool to play FFIII, although the double-screen line sounds pretty cheesy.

the double-screen line sounds pretty cheesy.
The curse of the DS, unfortunately :(
Personally, I would have been happy if they just stuck a little analog nub (see PSP) instead of the touch screen and called the thing the 'Game Boy 64'.
I'm only buying it for Super Mario 64, FF3 and GoldenEye anyways.

Stock really won't affect things that much. If Square-Enix decided to defect (and we know they have no qualms - there were a LOT of angry Nintendo fans when S-E announced FF7 for the PlayStation instead of the Nintendo 64), they could just sell any Sony stock they have. Extra pocket money.
If it's the other way around, and Sony has shares in them, I know they don't have a controlling interest - so in reality, Sony can't dictate their moves. If they decide that they'll make more money on the Xenon or Revolution than the PS3, they'll jump ship.

Almost every FF has been released on the Sony Consoles, so why not FFIII? Simple Logic tells you that FFIII will be released along with the other classics on PS1. Anyway, whats the use of a touch screen in an RPG???
Also, I'm not going to run out of the house and buy a Nintendo DS just cuz it has FFIII. If need be I'd buy a SNES and play it on that

I resent that fact. The PS1 was and still is an amazing console regardless of what you people say (where else can you get FFVII, MGS, FFVIII, FFIX?)

Who gives a shit what system it's on. As long as it's being released in the US. So what if it's not on the PSOne, maybe Square-Enix wanted to take advantage of the Dual/Touch Screen action. If you don't like the fact that FF3 ain't on any Sony system, GET OVER IT!!!!
As I said before, at least it's in the US now. :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

No, they wouldn't.
Think business here. You've just release a game BUILT SPECIFICALLY FOR ANOTHER CONSOLE. Now, think how it might not be so simple to change it from displaying information on two screens, to one screen, to dealing with two processors, to one processor, to a complete user interface change for every part of the game that involves any relation to the second screen, then consider the problem of having to re-do every section of the game that DEALT with the touch screen...
all for the meagre profit of the few people who would want FF3?
And wait, is this even the american FF3? or the japanese one? I'm confused.

It's Final Fantasy III(j), to use the old ROM titles. The one that was never released in America.
If it was Final Fantasy VI (III American), I would be a lot more excited, I assure you.

I wasn't saying anything against the console, just the hardware - the new PS2 slimline can play PSone games. What I meant was that no-one develops A-list new titles for the PSone anymore - and the PS2-redesign is readying to be the equivalent of the PSone for the next generation.
