I’ve had a bootleg of this score for a while now, but I was unhappy with the quality. Most of the tracks were very muffled. I decided to spend some time improving and brightening the sound. The results, although not perfect, are pretty good.

The really surprising thing is that all the tracks are in genuine stereo, and not the mono mix you would expect of a 1973 made-for-TV movie. The score presented here isn’t quite complete, but it covers most of the important stuff. Let’s hope someone releases an official version someday soon.

01. Main Titles (1:55)
02. Introduction (0:42)
03. The Lovers (unused) (1:08)
04. Death Of A Brother (contains unused section) (1:42)
05. Satan's Pupil (0:33)
06. Clavell's Laboratory / Reanimating The Beetle (unused) (1:46)
07. Viktor and Elizabeth (2:07)
08. Elizabeth Kills The Butterfly (0:55)
09. Doctor Pollidori (unused) / Grave Robbing (2:18)
10. Clavell's Reflection / The Arm / Clavell Dies (2:14)
11. Victor Finds Clavell (Act Out version) (0:16)
12. Victor Finds Clavell / Clavell's Brain / The Experiment (3:17)
13. He's Alive! (3:21)
14. A New Home (0:50)
15. After The Opera / Signs Of Degeneration (1:41)
16. The Process Is Reversing Itself / Hypnotic Pollidori / Tears (1:13)
17. Alone In The Night / The Creature Is Gone (2:21)
18. The Creature's Despair / Cliff Jump (3:10)
19. Washed Ashore (1:04)

Thank you! The music is excellent.

Never saw the movie, but I found a wonderful 6 minute trailer (uploaded by Bacardicus) at Frankenstein The True Story - Extended Trailer - YouTube (http://youtu.be/fx83SjnHxBo) .

James Mason gives an electrifying performance, David McCallum lends a hand, Jane Seymour tries to strangle a cat and eventually loses her head over Michael Sarrazin as The Creature.

Hello feedthecats,
thank you very much for providing this marvellous Gil Melle TV score - a very very underrated composer who had
a very unique composing style: often avantgardish and of cause influenced by his Jazz background (rythm technique)
like Jerry Fielding.
As most of his scores are perfectly suited to the movie/TV projects he composed for - they were never mainstream compositions
which may be the main reason that not much of his work is available on LP/CD to this day.
Which is a real pity as I really adore this composer for his highly original compositional technique.
Thanks again for this score. Regards, Klaus.

Hello feedthecats,
just one question haunts me:
I also have that CD-R bootleg version with the muffled sound - but it has 41 tracks and runs slightly over 68 mins.
Your source - which is greatly improved in sound quality - has 37 tracks and runs 65 mins which would make a difference of 3-4 mins.
Where there various bootleg versions with different content/running time around or
did you kick some tracks out for being repetitive or too bad in sound quality for improvement?
Just curious ...
Regards, Klaus.

I combined (but didn't overlap) a couple of the very short cues. I also omitted two repeats of the Main Title (which is identical to the End Title).

I remember watching Frankenstein on NBC as a child, in 2 parts, and I liked it so much that today I own a copy on DVD. But I never thought I'd see the ost or any other version of Frankenstein, anywhere.

Thanks very much for your time and effort. I'll give this a listen as soon as Mega finishes...

It's funny, but for a tv version, this version of Frankenstein was the most complete, much better than any big budget film!

Thanks again!

Anything by Gil Melle is fantastic. I remember seeing this on television when it was first broadcast. The film was wonderfully produced and told and seriously graphic for it's time. I loved it. I finally got to record this on an Atlanta television station at 3:00 a.m. I finally found it recently on DVD but I think it's been edited.

Melle has scored some of the creepiest most stunning music ever and he is hugely underrated much like John Cacavas. (Airport 77 anyone?) I remember the theme for Kolchak: The Night Stalker as being one of the scariest themes written (though it was culled from his original score for The Questor Tapes). The best though was his theme for Night Gallery. That was pure nightmare material. Not until The Walking Dead has it been matched.

Thank you for sharing this.

Just like our friend, Frank N. Stein. Nobody can stop Frank! Only Frank can stop Frank.

If Frank moves in next door, you may as well just change zip codes. Kind of like Rednecks, but w/o all the junked cars out on the front lawn.
