youre a good musician if your mother recognizes you after hearing three notes of your playing on the radio, and youre a good singer if everybody who has heard your voice before recognizes you after hearing you sing three notes.as a combination this does not apply to too many musicians.chet baker was one of them.
born 1929 he became big in the 50s on the west coast.at the end of the 60s hes got his front teeth knocked out, which is no advantage if you play the trumpet.with new dentures and addicted to heroin for most of his life he continued to perform and record, mostly in europe, until he died after falling out of a hotel window in amsterdam in 1988.
shortly before that bruce weber made a black and white documentary with and about chet baker.the documentary was oscar nominated and has a 93% rating on rotten tomatoes.
this is the soundtrack to the film.
