Hello, can you rip this CD again in 24bit / 48khz? Your files are in 16bit.

The cover is a bit of a misnomer. It says "24bit Digital Transfer". Meaning the session files that made the CD were 24bit which were then converted to press the CD. Music CDs are only 16bit (sometimes 20 but that's another story). Either way, link received and I am grateful as I've never had it in lossless at any bitrate.

The soundtrack is TRUE lossless, if you know NOTHING about mastering and analysis, shut up. Your nick doesn't mean you know more than others. You never contributed into this forum to demand anything, take my "The Winter Soldier" suite ripped from Blu-ray and tell me with your "super divine automatic analysis-software for dummies" if is real or fake lossless. Try it.

Are you real?

The 24k stands for a reflective layer made out of gold. The reflective layer on the CD is needed... well, to reflect the laser light shot at it when reading said CD. Gold is supposed to decay less than the usual aluminum oxide layer. In theory this results in a reflection of 99% for gold and roughly 85% for aluminum (because it supposedly starts to oxidize even before it's applied to the polycarbonate disc layer containing the pits). That�s at least what all those marketing guys told 20 years ago when gold-cd's were all the rage. To my knowledge and in my experience, using recent CD players or PC drives, it doesn�t matter anymore. Today, gold-CDs only have the advantage of longevity.

The 24 bit just refer to the mastering process.

Which might mean several things:

1. the original master was analogue tape and recorded digitally to 24 bit & 44,1/48/88,2/96 etc.
2. the original digital master used in 2000 already was 24 bit, so they dithered it using modern methods (see-> dithering)
3. they just grabbed the original 16 bit CD, converted it to 24 bit, increased volume and dithered it down to 16 bit again for this release

The most likely options are 2. & 3., just because 1. would have been more expensive. Naturally, both won�t really offer any benefit over the original 2000-CD. They did this to squeeze some more money out of audiophiles (believe it or not, they even exist among score enthusiasts... though it�s rare). IME, audiophiles are dumb (because they refuse to use anything but their ears) and can be punked easily by these things. Proof: paying $ 65 for it.

Oh, and it�s of course not 24 bit! The CD cannot handle anything else than 2-channel, 16 bit & 44,1 kHz.

BTW, I did not download this. The OST has always been enough for me. Besides, 24 bit mastering, let alone gold-coating, won�t save or improve the sound of this score.
