Has anyone ever though that a bad guy could be the main character in a final fantasy like.

In a word, no.

Sure.

This is kind of a shitty way to open a discussion, but I don't think it would be a bad idea. (BoF IV had something like this, and it worked very well).

Tokiko

It all depends on the way the story is told, then. I don't know BoF IV, and cannot say how they did it...

I guess... evil is a matter of perspective, more or less. ;) Playing someone who is not, according to the view of most people, doing the right thing, could be interesting.

But someone evil, really evil, I don't think should be played by a gamer. Villains are the scary, impressive, strong, fascinating people. Heroes are the weak, normal guys. It's no fun fighting weak nice guys. :(

Will it could be likethis: The hero use to be a good guy till something life changing happens. Causing him to seek revenge on the person who caused it. Slowly turning him evil. And then in the end you can die like all evil villians in ff.

Xenogears has something (sort of) like this which is really cool.

Also, I don't know if any of you know the manga called Deathnote, but it is a story told from the evil guy's perspective, which is really cool.

how about a good guy whos suposably fighting agenced a bad guy. no 1 knows who it is but heaps of disasters keep ...(cant think of the word) by this mysterious random guy. in the end the good guy figgers out that he is the bad guy doing all this bad stuff. so the he has to have this big mental battle with the good side of hime self and the bad side.

That sounds a lot like Fight Club. And since I hated that movie, I'm automatically against the idea.

Yeah i think that having an evil person as a main character would be different and interesting.

It would give you a different perspective to final fantasy, but then again it could be a total failure and make squareEnix bankrupt

It depends on what circumstances the bad guy is consider bad or became bad.

Like Tokiko said good guys are usually weak unless we teh player trains him/her so that htey can be powerful and the evil ones are always so powerful and strong from the start.

No. I mop the floor with the idea of villains guys as a player. It would totally ruin the emotion of Final Fantasy...maybe not. But still...maybe.

I don't like that idea, it just ruins my psychology...

KREAYSHAWN
10-09-2004, 12:05 PM
No, it wouldn't. An enemy has less of a capactiy to feel? Or to tell a story with great emotion? Someone who earnestly believes what they are doing is for the best yet is reviled by most people could make for a great character. Especially if you make them just that: an actual character, and not a one dimensional bad guy, like Sephiroth. That would just be silly.

Yeah, if it was well executed, I think it'd be an awesome idea.

I mean, the guy wouldn't be evil, exactly, but he might do some pretty awful things in the name of whatever it is he's trying to accomplish.

Also, how can you not like Fight Club?

In FFIV Cecil was a black knight and made some nasty things, although he wasn't really aware of it. But he did change to a paladin later on :D

Why not? a bad guy as the hero aint that bad. i think it'll be different and interesting. but as Ndi said, it all depends on how the character's going to be executed.

Why the hell not! Its no use worrying about wether or not it would work becasue S:E would make it work. Its fun to toy with new ideas. Also, connecting this idea with another thread about plot twists, you could also have a split story where for some of the game you play as the hero, but for the other half you play as the villain. So when you come to faceing the villain at the end of the game it could be made into a twist since you have trained up the very evil you have to beat.

It would be frickin' awsome, but too many people are pansies and everyone has to be good. o_O

actually, if u think of it, there is no real good or evil (sept in ffx, everyone hates sin, blah blah, cant really explain that with my thoery) but anyway, if u think about what it would be like being seifer or another villain, like sephy for example, he wuz a bad guy, but he also had his tuff times, he wuz just trying to figure out what his life wuz about, well sumtimes, but think about it, a good-guy, is actually the bad guy in the villains eyes, so lets say instead of being in balamb garden, u wuz a galbadian (sp?) u would try to kill the good guys (instead of bad guys) and u would still face like monsters and bull (and i bet u would face sum really tuff bosses too, think of it, good guys makin machines to kill the bad guys) and i bet there would be an emotional part to the plot, villians can have lovers too, and it could even be like romeo and juiliet, where ur lover is on the other side, and u have to work things out. its all a pretty confusing theory, but thats my thoughts, and i think it would be pretty fresh if square did sumtin like that

Well, it is like that in 'Before Chrisis'. I mean, the main characters are 'The Turks', their enemies are 'Avalanche'. And in FF-VII 'The Turks' were the enemies. So, they actually made it already.

Actully, it IS a blast to have an evil guy on your team. if anyone has played the new Star Ocean: till the end of time, you actully ~~~~SPOLIER~~~~ end up getting a guy who is against you for most the game on your team in the end, it's fun as hell, he is so strong, and he only gets stronger once he joins you, so i think it could be fun to play as a bad guy, you can do things which could be fun, kill some innocent people, rob people, destory planets, towns, civilizations, whatever gets ya hard ;)

It would not be good in an ff. The reason being that they all have a set pattern and that to spoil that would displace most of the fans. If SE created a new game appart from ff then perhaps.

I wouldn't mind having an RPG where you could be the bad guy, I hardly ever find games where you can choose which side, like.. I agree'd with soem of the bad guy's ideas. SOME of them.

.:One Winged Angel:.

They should re release the final fantasy's where you play as sephiroth, seifer or kuja.

that would be cool,

but you can always just use a gameshark to play seven as sephy, your not evil but you half way there

But the villians think that what they are doing is right and is for the good of... well them. But still, they think they are doing good, and that the "good guys" are trying to stop them.

i suppose you are half right that applys for some villains but take kefka for example he just wants to screw up the world he knows hes wrong and he loves it he is clearly bad and thinks of the team as a bunch of do-gooders.

maybe the main character would be converted at the last possible second in the ending cinematic scene.

Maybe the main guy doesn't have to be like the last boss in the game, the leader of the bad guys?

Andrealinia
03-19-2005, 12:17 AM
I like the typical Final Fantasy.... Hero meets Heroine... lol if your Hero was a bad guy then you wouldn't really have a Heroine and the love stories that FF are famous for wouldn't really exist...

Sephiroth's Guardian
05-19-2005, 10:08 AM
I agree with Andrealinia because love, the good guy against the bad guy is an important thing that can make Final Fantasy still exist. But ... if we can use the bad guy as our player, I think it would be fun, too. Guess, if we change the game like we are playing the bad guy, we against the copyrights of the creator. Besides, Sephiroth wasn't truly bad guy, was it? I mean uh ... the real Sephiroth is already died and the one who exist is the Jenove's DNA inside him (actually, this is abit hard to explain) so basically, Sephiroth only follow the reality he get by himself, and believe it or not, he knows it. And, there's no choice that search the real truth by his own way.

Every final fantasy should be re released according to the evil's origins. For Example you could play as seymour guado when he was a child and watched his mother die to destroy sin, then seymour becomes evil through the resto of this game that should be called Final Fantasy X-0
Or you can play as Garland (FFI) When he was a noble knight of corneria, the he becomes bad through the game... maybe because of a tragic love and make a good solid story with that.
Or you can just go and watch Episode III: revenge of the siths, it's the same of this thread

Seymour, that would be interested, but the voice creeps me out :/

Chaos And Fist
06-17-2005, 12:51 AM
Not Seymour, not Sephy. They, along with Kujo, were like little childern throwing tantrums. Hardly evil. Perhaps ffx as Ject? Nah...

If S:E wants to use this idea and still make a butt load of money they should release a ff (I'll call it ffMXII) in their usual style. They create this game in their nomal way, but make sure the villian is an intreging character. One which makes the character wonder "Why did he do that? What's his story?" Then, they turn around and release ffMXII: Black where you play as the villian and, thus, learn about his past.

Hi im new to this website....anyways...
I don't really care if the main char is good or bad guy as long the story is good and gameplay is fun.
