In 1994s The Air Up There, Kevin Bacon stars as a basketball coach who travels to Africa to recruit a prodigy ("Saleh") whose performance impressed him in a home movie. But Saleh's tribe wants him to stay put, especially since a mining company eager for their land has a rival basketball team. The title refers to Saleh, who stands an impressive 6' 10" and his ability to jump. The commercial soundtrack on Interscope highlighted vocals from the film, overlooking Newman's score, which is filled with African percussion.
