Director Robert Zemekis stunned quite a few when he announced that his film Cast Away would not use a film score and would rely on sound effects instead. This turns out to be true for the first 90 minutes of the film, but then Silvestri's subtle and bittersweet music enters just when the main character is finally able to escape the island.
The score was never commercially released. What I have is a fan-made creation masquerading as an FYC with the original 6 tracks lifted off the real 6-track For Your Consideration Academy Promo plus a 7th track ("End Credits") lifted from another Silvestri compilation. The first 6 tracks are lossless, while the 7th is not. This is not the real FYC Promo.
An expanded version of Cast Away can also be found on the Memphis Music label (bootleg) with Silvestri's unreleased music to Serendipity. Message #9 (below) offers a track comparison of the 7-track Cast Away and this expanded version.
Serendipity was a romantic comedy from 2001 about how fate re-unites 2 people after a chance encounter. A commercial soundtrack was released on Columbia, but included 12 vocals and just 1 score track. This disc includes 17 tracks, and Silvestri's music is upbeat and eclectic: a tango, a bossa nova, a little folk guitar. All tracks on this disc are lossless.
CAST AWAY (FAKE FYC)= 7 titled tracks totaling about 24 minutes.
Tau and EAC indicated 6 tracks on this disc to be lossless, with the exception of "End Credits"
CAST AWAY (15 tracks) & SERENDIPITY (17 tracks) = 32 tracks totaling about 80 minutes
Tau and EAC indicated all tracks on this disc to be lossless.
