Just because it doesn't have a digital release doesn't mean it never got a CD release. In fact I have a friend who has the original vinyl soundtrack.

Sadly, the Robin Hood soundtrack never got a comprehensive digital or analog audio release. The vinyl issues were all story and song and while they have been ripped and edited, they aren't the film versions. This is definitely a DVD or blu ray rip because it has the sound effects and muffled vocals. My question wasn't meant as a challenge to the original poster. I was just curious how he/she had a Robin Hood soundtrack when one was never released...on CD or vinyl.

The best way to fill some of the gaps (Sword, Fox/Hound, Robin Hood etc) would be nice cleaned-up FLACs of the original vinyl EPs. Slightly amazed that Randy Thornton's never even done a nice compilation CD of that stuff. You get the odd bone thrown on a Best Of Disney but it's always Oo-De-Lally or Best Of Friends etc.

I've asked Randy about this and it seems as though it is largely out of his hands. He can only work with what the company owns outright or is willing to pay for. This is why the RedDotNet system was phased out in favor of Wonderland Music Co. The only rights they owned were for usage in the rides...not for retail sale. Had it continued, they would have had to redress the musicians' unions, etc. In the case of premiere Disney titles, they're willing to pay but even in those cases, they're rather conservative. Bourne is very protective over their rights (to Snow White score, etc.) and the fees they require which is why the Disneyland CD set had a fantasyland medley but not individual ride-throughs as it had for almost everything other attraction. Randy was, however, instrumental in brokering their relationship with Intrada in order to put more of the rare stuff into collectors' hands AND to find a physical media outlet for a company that is committed to going completely digital download. I think the assumption is that Disney owns all of their music but that isn't the case. The rights are owned by a variety of entities and the musicians must also be paid for any usage extant to their original contract.

Fascinating and baffling! I'd always thought that, early ownership glitches aside, it was basically theirs to do with as they wished. Lets hope Intrada fill more gaps for us!
I notice that their U-turn on new soundtrack CDs seems to be here for good though - they never quite lived down the Up/Oscars embarrassment, did they? Even Planes got a physical release. And of course Frozen was one of the best-selling CDs of 2013. Which leaves lots of room for Intrada to hopefully tackle Rescuers, Hound, Sword etc :D
Shame about The Lost Chords being digital, mind. In the UK you can't even get the Peter Pan one.
Actually, are there any needledrops around of some of the Disneyland Records soundtrack EPs? Not just lost soundtracks etc, but oddities like More Jungle Book.

I think most people assume that Disney owns everything but one of the biggest reasons there are Disney "second cast" albums is because they didn't have the rights to release the audio with the primary cast. This is one of the reasons why you'll hear a lot of Disney songs (even "soundtracks") where they differ significantly from the movie versions. The other is, of course, that the movie version is edited for the film and might not make for a good listening experience.
Lost Chords is Randy's baby and I think he'd prefer to see them as physical product also. I think they make a good "extra" for DVD and bluray releases but I suppose, even then, they could just release them as supplementary material on the disc and not have a dedicated pressed disc for them.
There are some blogs devoted to Disneyland Records but usually they aren't cleaned up in anyway and they tend to sound as thought a kid got a lot of enjoyment out of them and a lot of peanut butter on them. That said, some of them have some really rare stuff on them as well, so it's worth looking into.

I vote yes. There are plenty of threads for Disney soundtracks. Perhaps post the link in Lockdown's thread incase anybody does want it?
I think it best to keep this thread strictly to high-quality, SFX-free music.

This is such a ridiculously awesome thread. You are my hero(ine?), seriously! I'm a huge Disney fan already, and I recently decided to archive all of my music in FLAC since I had a 1.5 TB hard drive lying around, and this is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE help :D
I assume for the soundtracks that have had re-releases with remastered audio and such (Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and the like), that's what these are?

I'll take the former :-)

Correct. For Beauty and the Beast I took the 2004'ish release, because that had the bonus track "Human Again" which was missing from the last release.
As Zeratul13 noted, many of the later scores are FYC, or Cast and Crew expanded. Basically I took the best releases in the best quality.

I wonder if it might be a nice idea to collect together FLACs of all the tracks from the soundtrack-less films that have had official releases on compilations. Probably will only be a dozen songs but it might make a cool 'album' for archival purposes.

Yeah, don't forget that the frequency range of these 1930s/40s old soundtracks are very small, not to mention they're mono, and FLAC saves space by compressing to just the data, not the wasted space. They're definitely legit! You'll notice the file sizes get bigger as they move across the decades.

Oh, thanks, I guessed it would be something like that, but I wasn't so sure. A legit cue or filetext of the rip would be perfect and scans to all of the olders too, but thanks anyway, they're still perf. Thanks for uploading to MEGA anyway!
BTW, talking about unreleased movie scores, recently I was watching The Fox and the Hound and I liked the simple full orchestral old style score, sad it isn't released anywhere but rips.
In case you're still weary.
