The Qatsi Trilogy
(Koyaanisqatsi, Poaqqatsi, Naqoyqatsi)
Codec: FLAC
NOTES: Been working on this labor of love for a week now, and have finally finished: the complete scores to Godfrey Reggio's Qatsi Trilogy, composed by living legend Philip Glass. All three scores are sourced directly from the remastered, lossless Criterion Blu-ray DTS-HD Master Audio tracks, and have been downmixed to stereo for normal listening (if you want the full 5.1 experience, buy the Blu-rays). These are the scores as heard in the film, with occasional sound effects weaving in and out (although these go hand in hand with the score, and are not distracting). I have not included alternate takes or mixes included on the commercial CD releases because those are still valid listening experiences on their own and you should buy them. Cover art has been included using modified versions of the excellent Criterion artwork. Now then...

Koyaanisqatsi
Year: 1982
Tracklisting:
1. Koyaanisqatsi (3:28)
2. Organic (8:04)
3. Clouds (4:35)
4. Resource (6:38)
5. Vessels (8:43)
6. Pruitt Igoe (7:48)
7. Slow Mo People - Part 1 (1:49)
8. Slow Mo People - Part 2 (3:01)
9. The Grid (21:38)
10. Microchip (1:54)
11. Prophecies (12:34)
12. Translations & Credits (5:27)
Total Runtime: 1:25:33
NOTES: The first (and greatest) of the scores, this is still probably Glass's best work (IMO, of course). A peerless masterpiece. There have been many releases of this (my preferred is still the 1998 rerecording), including a so-called "Complete" CD release a few years ago, but that too was actually trimmed down by a few minutes to fit on a 79 minute CD. This version is complete.

Also, there is a very minor typo with the tagged artwork in this release (the world "Original" is missing), if you'd like to retag using the fullsize corrected version it is available here:

Powaqqatsi
Year: 1988
Tracklisting:
1. Serra Pelada/The Title (7:21)
2. Anthem - Part 1 (8:40)
3. That Place (7:09)
4. Anthem - Part 2 (7:34)
5. Mosque and Temple (6:09)
6. Anthem - Part 3 (8:12)
7. Train to Sao Paulo (3:04)
8. Video Dream (2:24)
9. New Cities in Ancient Lands, China (4:00)
10. New Cities in Ancient Lands, Africa (4:11)
11. New Cities in Ancient Lands, India (4:41)
12. The Unutterable (10:21)
13. Caught! (8:33)
14. From Egypt - Part 1 (3:53)
15. Mr. Suso #1 (1:01)
16. From Egypt - Part 2 (3:23)
17. Mr. Suso #2 with Reflection (1:32)
18. Powaqqatsi (6:36)
Total Runtime: 1:39:00
NOTES: The second score is easily the weakest of the three, mainly because of the grating overuse of the "Anthem" theme (a full half hour's worth on this expanded edition) and the tiresome a capella wailing of "From Egypt". The bulk of this score is still brilliant, though, and this is the most substantially expanded score compared to its 74 minute commercial release.

Naqoyqatsi
Year: 2002
Tracklisting:
1. Naqoyqatsi (8:02)
2. Primacy of Number (8:20)
3. Massman (14:23)
4. New World (3:06)
5. Religion (9:03)
6. Media Weather (10:09)
7. Old World [Film Edit] (2:23)
8. Intensive Time (8:08)
9. Point Blank (12:21)
10. The Vivid Unknown [Film Edit] (5:53)
11. Definition (7:11)
Total Runtime: 1:28:51
NOTES: This is Glass back on top form with another masterpiece. Interestingly, two of the movements have been truncated for the film and appear longer and uncut on the commercial soundtrack album. Most of the other tracks receive significant expansions, though, especially the grim march "Massman".

Enjoy everyone! I'm no audio engineer, so these may not be the most perfect presentations possible for someone a bit more skilled than I am, but they still make for very nice listening and are good companion versions for fans who already own the commercial albums (and if you don't, do get them to support the artist -- and also get the Criterion Blu-ray boxset! These films are excellent and deserve your support! Also don't forget to see Reggio and Glass's new film Visitors coming out this year) :)
