Sharing time, after a long hiatus the time has come. Once again, I want to share with you music from an obscure source, this time from an album related to the Tokyo Majin Gakuen franchise. TMG is a franchise whose first title was released in 1998 for the PlayStation, after that various titles came out for PS, PS 2 and Nintendo DS. As far as I know, these games have only been released in the "Land of the Rising Sun", so I don't think this franchise is well known here in the west. Probably, the most renowned product of this franchise, at least in the west, is the anime series titled "Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho" which is loosely based on the plot of the games.
This album is a live recording of the concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of this game series. The style of this album is akin to the one used in albums like Okami or Oboromuramasa, that is to say, traditional japanese music, but with hints of rock and pop. Its style could be described as Persona meets ancient Japan. I prefer the faster paced pieces but there is plenty of variety and interesting music throughout all the album's tracks. There are two vocal tracks infused with oriental flavours, but more pop-oriented than genuinely folkloric in its conception. The highlights of the album are, without doubt, the performances of some of the instrumentalists, providing awe-inspiring and memorable performances.
Also, bear in mind that this is a live recording and the recording quality is not always the best, although for the most part it's acceptable.
I hope you enjoy it. It's worth a listen.
