These are two albums of songs from Hong Kong (or Taiwanese) movies and television shows
of the 1980s and 1990s, including such popular titles like Beijing Opera Blues, The Heroic Trio,
Au Revoir Mon Amour, Shanghai Blues, The Twin Bracelets, and The Killer. I haven't
been able to identify all the shows/films, maybe some Chinese user of this forum can help me out.
The music is performed by two of Hong Kong's most enduringly popular Canto pop singers,
Anita Mui Yim-Fong (the "Madonna of the New Territories") and Sally Yeh (Yip Sin-Man),
most are original versions, a few are covers of other singers' movie songs. Anita Mui was also
a noted, award winning actress in HK movies of the time, Sally Yeh also starred in a number of
films (like "Beijing Opera Blue" for Tsui Hark) before she married and retired from films.
These are my own rips, but I was too lazy to drag out the original CDs and couldn't find the
covers on the world wide web either. So, no cover scans this time!
As a sample, this is the impossibly catchy theme song from Tsui Hark's SHANGHAI BLUES:

I. Anita Mui, Film Song Collection (originally, "Anita Mui No.4")

Anita Mui, with Leslie Cheung, in "Rouge" (1987).
Anita Mui Yim-fong (10 October 1963 30 December 2003) was a Hong Kong singer and actress.
During her prime years, Mui made major contributions to the Cantopop music scene while receiving
numerous awards and honours. She remained an idol throughout most of her career, and was generally
regarded as a Cantopop diva. Mui once held a sold-out concert in Hammersmith, London, England,
where she was dubbed the "Madonna of Asia (東方麥當娜)" and brought her to further international
fame. That title has stayed with her throughout her career, and has been used as a comparison
for both Eastern and Western media.
In the 1980s, the gangtai style of music was revolutionised by Mui's wild dancing and on-stage
femininity. She was famed for her outrageous costumes and high-power performances in combination
with contralto vocals, which are rare in female artists. Her fan base reached far beyond Hong Kong
into many parts of Asia, including Taiwan, mainland China, Singapore and Malaysia, and other
countries as well. In the Hong Kong entertainment industry, where stars often rise to fall quickly,
Mui remained in the spotlight for 21 years (1982-2003). Her career came to a halt in 2003 when
she announced that she had cervical cancer, and she died later that year at the age of 40.
Mui's continuing commemoration by the Hong Kong entertainment industry was due not only to her
music and film legacies, but also her involvement in charity and humanitarian work.

II. Sally Yeh, Movie Songs

Left to right: Brigitte Lin, Cecilia Cheung & Sally Yeh in "Beijing Opera Blues".
Sally Yeh (born September 30, 1961), sometimes written as Sally Yip or Yip Sin-Man, is a Cantopop singer and actress.
Yeh is a Canadian citizen. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, immigrated to Canada at young age with her family, grew up in
Victoria, British Columbia. Yeh's singing career started in the early 1980s and gradually became a memorable
diva whose career has expanded for three decades with a total of thirty albums, plus forty-odd compilations and
live recordings. Yeh speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. Her jazz-trained vocals allow her to handle a wide
range of musical genres. Apart from a good record track of original hits, Sally Yeh has, through the years, covered
a number of Western songs, ranging from Madonna to Cline Dion by way of the Titanic theme song.
Due to her unique voice, she has received the number of awards in her career. In the 1980s-1990s, her popularity
in Hong Kong was only matched by Anita Mui and Priscilla Chan. She has also collaborated on a number of soundtracks
(mostly on Tsui Hark's movies with scores by Wong Jim), including "Lai Ming But Yiu Loi" from A Chinese Ghost Story
(1987), which won the Best Original Song award at the 7th Hong Kong Film Awards. Other notable hits of her include,
A Woman's Weakness, Heart of Fire, Cheers, Bless, Bygone Wound, Believe in Yourself (duet with Alex To), Ten Past
Midnight, You Have to Leave Today, I Want To Keep Living, and many more.
