I'm a huge fan of the Playstation 1 games Tomba and Tomba 2. I recently put together an ultimate Tomba 2 soundtrack pack from scratch (see link in my signature) but I still feel that none of the Tomba 1 soundtrack packs currently available in the community are quite perfect. I'm hoping someone here can help me do a PSF re-rip.

There is a PSF pack available at Zophar's domain and another site (http://psf.joshw.info/t/) which is pretty good, but I've noticed 3 problems with this pack, and there may be more which I'm not aware of:
-"Title Screen" sounds slightly wrong (some of the percussion is too loud)
-"Village Of All Beginnings" sounds slightly wrong (some of the percussion is too loud)
-"33 Unknown" - for which the correct title should be "Dwarf Forest Purified"* - sounds completely wrong (best way I can explain it is the tune is correct but the instruments are wrong)
*Please note "Dwarf Forest Purified" is a completely different track to "Dwarf Village Purified".

I've also identified all the "Unknown" track titles in the pack as follows:
"Track 33 Unknown" - correct title should be "Dwarf Forest Purified"
"Track 34 Unknown" - correct title should be "Leaf Slider"
"Track 35 Unknown" - correct title should be "Trick Village (Purified)"
"Track 36 Unknown" - correct title should be "The Flower Tower"

Unfortunetely despite many many hours trying, I have been unable to re-rip PSFs of Tomba 1 myself. It's just way beyond my technical ability and I'm completely out of my depth. Apparently Tomba uses the Fear Effect 2 - Retro Helix (SLES_033.86) Driver, which might be part of the problem, as I don't really understand where to get this driver or how to use it. I have managed to find and identify some of the SEQ files, VB files and VH files in the Tomba 1 game data (For example I know "S_AR010X_0000" is the sequence file for Dwarf Forest Purified) but that's as far as I've been able to get. I managed to rip PSFs from Tomba 2 so I'm not a complete newbie, but I could really use some help with Tomba 1.

I'd really like to put together an ultimate Tomba 1 soundtrack pack for the community but I just can't do this without correct PSF rips of at least the three tracks above

you'd be better off asking the guys at hcs64 (http://hcs64.com/mboard/forumlong.php) for this type of stuff. emulated game music ripping is such a pain to deal with.

I would also like to bump this requesting someone re-upload the Tomba 1 ost. The one on galbadia hotel is no longer working. I've used the search, but I'm not finding anything.

EDIT: oh, it seems it's available here:

Thanks for the suggestion dissident, I might try there when I get time.

FYI that is the game rip, and some of those recordings include sound effects (which are definetely not part of the music track). The PSF pack (linked in the 1st post of this topic) does not include any sound effects so is superior for the most part, BUT as mentioned, the tracks "Title Screen", "Village Of All Beginnings" and "33 Unknown" (correct name is "Dwarf Forest Purified") sound incorrect in the PSF pack, so for those three tracks, the game rip is superior. For now, anyway.

A PSF re-rip of Tomba (ideally complete, but at least those three tracks) is still needed, so if anyone else can help please let me know, as it's way beyond my technical ability.

+1 for this. But my knowledge is even less than yours, so u can't help you. Hopefully another bump will help gather attention from someone who can, but like previously stated, asking at Haley's comet will get you better replies

Guess who else really want this! :)

I've tried ripping it before, it does use the "midi" technology (SEQ) the PS1 is known for, but it uses it's own library of sounds. In other words, if you play it with a normal midi library it sounds awful. I would love to have this in as lossless quality as possible. I can rip the sounds too, but yeah, I don't know how to combine the two.

Any progress?

Any progress?

I think it's done very similar as the King's Field series, which I have trouble getting a direct rip of too, but at least there has been some official soundtrack released for some of the tracks in those games. :(

Unfortunetely I no longer have time to attempt a PSF re-rip of Tomba 1, I'll quote my explanation from my Tomba 2 OST topic:

Honestly I never got around to asking at hcs64 (http://hcs64.com/mboard/forumlong.php) and unfortunetely I don't have as much time now as I did a year ago so it's unlikely I'll be able to do an ultimate Tomba 1 soundtrack pack myself anytime soon, even with help. I did try my absolute best for several months to figure it out but I just didn't have the technical skills to find all the SEQ files, VB files and VH files on the Tomba 1 game disc and I couldn't understand how the whole Fear Effect 2 Driver thing worked. I literally spent several whole days trying many different methods and programs, and reading every ripping tutorial I could find. I even got in touch with manakoAT, the ripper of the good (but not perfect) Tomba 1 PSF pack that's floating around

Hopefully someone else with more technical know-how will be able to do this at some point. To reiterate (and help anyone attempting this), the existing PSF Tomba 1 pack (available at psf.joshw.info/t/ (http://psf.joshw.info/t/)) is good, but not perfect. Here's the audio-related problems I've noticed with the pack:

-"Title Screen" sounds slightly wrong (some of the percussion is too loud)
-"Village Of All Beginnings" sounds slightly wrong (some of the percussion is too loud)
-"33 Unknown" - for which the correct title should be "Dwarf Forest Purified"* - sounds completely wrong (best way I can explain it is the tune is correct but the instruments are wrong). There is a game-rip of this track on youtube which shows how it should sound - Tombi 1 - Dwarf Forest (Purified) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfQFLrVsg04)
*Please note "Dwarf Forest Purified" is a completely different track to "Dwarf Village Purified". I mention this only because they are easily confused.

There also may be more audio-related problems which I haven't noticed yet.

Good luck to anyone attempting this and I apologize that I could not succeed in doing it myself, but in the end it was just far beyond my technical knowledge and ability.

wish I could help, but I have less knowledge about PSF ripping than probably you do now :P

Any progress in here ? xD
I'd like to have the complete soundtrack too!
I just ripped some of them from youtube with video2mp3.net
;) Let me know.

Yes this is still desperately needed but as of yet nobody has stepped up. Even if I did have the time to do it, it's just way beyond my technical ability.

Please, someone, help us get an ultimate Tomba 1 soundtrack pack. The PSF pack is nearly perfect, we just need better PSF rips of the three tracks I mentioned:

Title Screen
Village Of All Beginnings
Dwarf Forest Purified (aka "33 Unknown")

Is anyone a member of Haley's Comet and could ask there? (http://hcs64.com/mboard/forumlong.php)

I am, but they're mainly focusing on 3DS music rips atm.
