Last night I pretty much read the entire manual for my Panasonuc DMP-BD75
And I plugged it into the Internet and I updated the firmware. And I read about DLNA
And when I went to NETWORK then DLNA it recognized my router modem. I have a
Bell Connection Hub. So then I got excited because I knew my Bell Connection Hub has
A USB port so I got really excited about the idea of watching video files and viewing pictures on
On my TV through the bluray player. The Bell Connection Hub has two USB ports.
So I plugged two external hard drives into it but when I got back to the TV it just
Kept saying " there are no files in this folder ". I restarted the modem and unplugged
Everything and plugged it back it and I kept pushing the RED Update button in the
Bluray players remote control but nothing worked. :(.
I live in St. Catharines so I am close to a Best Buy and a Future Shop. There might be some
Uber video Geek Squad nerds who can help me.
Hey guys I plan on maybe buying one or two USB sticks tomorrow so
I can do that BD Live stuff. Is that really wiry it ?
What's so good about BD Live ?

You're wasting time.
Don't plug USB into the modem. That's mostly for diagnostics and working directly with your modem/PC. That is, for techs only.
It's not meant to be used as streaming or internet services since the speed is capped significantly.
Use the program I linked in my post.
You're wasting time and money going to a GeekSquad or some other sort.
BDLive is good if you want to buy movies at midnight when they first hit the stores so you can TRY to get in on the Live Interviews that one-hit special features.
Other than that, there's nothing really spectacular about them.
For the The Hobbit, people with BD-Live were able to watch a private stream of special features, including live interviews and finally a sneak-peek at The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug.
DLNA is smarter because it will convert the formats on-the-fly (only temporary) to playback on your receiving device if the format is not compatible.
That is, for file formats, DTS-HD MA is not usually supported (for properly authored Discs only), so good DLNA software will convert it to AAC and stream it to your device.
The Geeks won't know what to do for you, except talk you into a digital Media Player (
http://us.ncix.com/products/?minorcatid=1331) or buy an HTPC (
http://us.ncix.com/search/?categoryid=0&q=htpc) for your video needs.
Universal Media Server is easy to setup and it's free.
No pissing around with the modem when you don't need to.

Talk to me like I am six years old. The purpose of DLNA is
So you can view files on the tv through the Bluray player
Correct ? When I go there my only option is my " Bell Connection Hub "
So how do I " attach " some MKV files or mp3s to play off the TV set ?
It would totally rock if I could just hook up an external HD to my
Ummmmm whatever the DLNA is and then just get a million
MKV files going on.
Sorry I am sort of a techy / computer nerd / after dawn glossary
Kind go guy but bring brutally honest I did LSD almost every single day
From the age of 15 to 18 so I am kind of a burn out.
So tomorrow I was going to try and buy maybe two really really cheap

Thing with my Promuthus BD-ROM and Terimatir Salvation. Are you
Saying it's pretty borning and pointless ?

You're not guaranteed proper playback of all files when connected directly to the Sony BDP.
There's no way of telling if one file will work and the next won't.
I've tried lots of things to determine this and gave up.
I've even tried programs like "MKV Repair/Meteorite" and found that it doesn't always work.
Talking to anyone from Sony won't help either.
I searched forums where there were a lot of Sony fans and they all stuck to DLNA servicing programs.
BD-Live is usually boring and pointless. But it's really up to the person who's going to be watching the features.
Sometimes they don't work because of the content may be linking to a dead site. Time limited features.
There's mostly just "Chat with your friends" and crap.
"Celebrity hosted" events are only good on the day the movie is released in stores.
For The Dark Knight (2008), you were able to watch the film with Christopher Nolan (
http://youtu.be/mDaBG985ZO4) (and a million other fans) and everyone can type messages and ask questions.
It was all a text based chat system that took up a small area on the top of the screen.
I don't see any hype in it all.
I've got several blu-ray movies with BD-Live and none of them really strike me as "must-see" special features.
But it doesn't hurt to try it out. You only need one stick to put in. The data is temporary.
Trust me, you're best solution is to install this free program and stream from your machine to your Sony BDP.
Universal Media Server (
http://www.universalmediaserver.com/)
I've been using it for a long time and don't have problems with it.
Default settings should be fine.
There are other DLNA programs but UMS is still in being developed and there are updates every so often.
Other DLNA programs have stopped updating so they are quite dead.

I think trailers, posters and basically what you find on the official film websites is what you're going to get for most films.
Older ones like Constantine, you'll get probably nothing but "unavailable" or some such.
The official Constantine site offers only a couple wallpapers in really small resolution and a screensaver.
Last time I checked.
I don't see there being too many different content for Constantine.
The Dark Knight site is really packed up for archives now.

I bought the a really cheap 4 USB stick and slapped it into the back of my Sony BDP--S360

And you were right it was pretty pointless and boring. The most exciting / best BD-Live experience was
X-Men first class because it sort of looked like I could interacts with the IMDB profiles of all the actors.
I guess it's kind of cool that I understand what BD-Live is
And if James Cameron really actually does BATTLE ANGEL ALITA in 2016
I will seriously be there at Best Buy or Future Shop or WALLMART
The fucking second the bluray hits the shelves and run home and
Slap it in the Stand Alone Player and maybe I can do that Dark Knight
Chat live with the director thing and talk to other weirdo men who
Have been secretly jacking off to Gally since the two part OVA came out
In like 1991 or whatever.
I will probably buy another cheap one. Another USB Stick
And put that in the back of my Panasonic DMP-BD75
as well. I have nothing better to do with my time anyway.
Maybe if someone weirdo makes LEON THE PROFESSIONAL PART TWO
one day I will also run home and slap the disc in and chat live with
Natalie Portman or whoever plays the women version of Matilda.
Also I know know how to update the firmware on those two
Stand alone players now. ( I am sure there are a lot of really smart white
Techy dudes reading that thinking how insanely easy it is to update the
Firmware on bluray players but I dud LSD like every day from the age of

Hook up a external hard drive to a PC that is

Filled with MKV files. ? Is that how it works ?
Can you play any files you like with the DLNA settings ?
.mkv .avi .ogm .mog .mpeg .jpeg. Whatever ?

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
10-24-2013, 01:09 AM
Yes it should work like that. Except for MKV files.
Windows has it's own "Sharing" settings when you right-click on a folder.
You can add folders from the external to Share and then you'll see them on your BD player.
But the weird thing is that for this to work, Windows needs to be able to play them through Windows Media Player.
MKV is messy because it's literally the only file WMP doesn't like to play.
Micro$hit just kicked us in the balls and said "have a good day."
-----------
I may be just thinking about the Xbox 360...Micro$hit.
You should be able to plug your external HDD directly into the BD player and do the same that way as you did with the DVDRs.
-----------
To play any file through the DLNA, use that Universal Media Server program.
It's quick to install and setup.
It will let you play a lot of formats on your BD player.
If it can't be played back without re-encoding, it re-encodes (temporarily) on-the-spot without any performance hits.
It works really fast to do everything.
My brother watches stuff off my laptop on his xbox 360 this way.
He watches from the Wifi too and zero issues!
Literally the best DLNA streaming program.
PS3 Media Server is quite good and it seems to be what people use if UMS doesn't work for them.
If you're looking for more social venues, you can check out the General Media section of the forum. There's always people talking about stuff.
I rant about stuff mostly. Like in novel form.
Also check out tehparadox forums. Everyday, there's stuff going on in the general discussion forum.
You'll find me ranting there too and condemning the human population on account of Miley Cyrus and Justin Beiber.

Being honest I knew that the actresses in that were obviously between

o_O In what universe is that an underlining logic to pass on to others? :notgood:
There is a fair amount of learning. What they actually meant to say is: "you don't unlearn".
They cannot fathom how to teach anyone what they learned.
The dual-layer discs (8GB) are definitely worth it.
A lot of scenes/p2p/groups aim for the 8gb disc size and deliver excellent quality.
"Framestor" is a wonderful name to look for movies. But are often not aimed for the 8GB disc size.
I believe PublicHD/PHD do aim for disc sizes. Their quality is relatively good. For most viewings where you don't want to be so obsessive and just want to watch a movie, they do good for that.

if the movie went through extra processing before being converted to final MKV file.
With really advanced video editing using Avisynth, you can achieve wonders.

MKV = piracy... so generally, you'll find that the only players that DO play them are the cheap shitty Chinese models. I can't see the likes of Sony or Panasonic saying "Use my player to watch all the stuff you downloaded from the Pirate Bay!" ;)
At least, that's my experience... the dodgier the brand, the more it's likely to handle. All this stuff is easy to implement - the crappiest system on a chip can play them... it's just a case of whether the manufacturer wants to support that functionality.
And pretty much anything burned to anything will outclass Laserdisc, which exists somewhere between VHS and DVD in terms of quality.

So many times I've started playing a remux and it just dies on me.
No idea why.
I would ask Sony but I would probably just a link to the PDF manual or just some stupid link with a few spec information.
I've tried header stripping and various other things (Meteorite, MKV validator) and nothing seems to guarantee a fix.

I think in Ontario Canada the cheapest

Maybe any encoding tricks past baseline are messing things up. Could be that the decoder chip can only deal with H264 complexity up to the standards required by the Bluray specs. Anything else clever buggers it?

It all depends on your expectation but HTIB rarely sounds any good. Subwoofer and speakers that are included with almost all HTIB are far too under-powered for full, balanced sound. The same goes for sound bars. But between the two, I would opt for a HTIB since it at least comes with a subwoofer. If you are serious about sound quality and are on a very limited budget, headphones will take you much further for cheaper.
And if you are planning to play blu-ray discs or lossless multi-channel audio, optical and coaxial will be bandwidth limited. Sound quality wise, they are all digital but use HDMI if your receiver has it.

I'll be arsed to re-encode to spec.
It used to be a huge deal to me. But since my laptop can handle anything I throw at it, it's become a trivial afterthought.

I had a couple HTIB. Sony had a decent one for my constrained budget plus the place I was living in didn't have "nice" neighbors so the limitations of the hardware seemed to do just fine for the conditions I was living.
I want to upgrade to HDMI compatible devices.
I still use the digital coaxial and it does well.
I'm not looking to blow up the continent or anything.
Sound bars would probably be more suited for "family environments" where kids won't really care about the sound as long as it's clear.
I would go for a HTIB and what your budget and living conditions allow.

Ugh. I was just on the Best Buy and Future Shop sites and
I am just going to buy a turntable at Best Buy or Future Shop
For like $150.00 I will buy a Sony one if I can. Then I can listen
To my Crystal Triangle OST on vinyl.
I might even use that USB software to rip it
