As if I even need to introduce this. The Dragon Ball series is one of the most well-known and adored animes of all time. It, along with many other now-revered titles, is responsible for the Western anime craze of the 90's and late 2000's. Considering just how vast the Dragon Ball story and franchise is, it should come as no surprise that multiple artists and composers have lent their hands to crafting and creating the music for the Dragon Ball Universe. To cover all of them would be a daunting and nigh-impossible task, but many talented individuals have helped to catalogue and present the vast array of music produced by the more prolific composers assigned to this universe. Since the amount of work required to even match the cataloguing presented for the more well-known artists would be a futile effort, this thread will be dedicated to one of the lesser known and appreciated composers for the English translation of Dragon Ball Z; Mark Menza.

Who is Mark Menza? Well, he is the man responsible for the music behind the English Dub of Dragon Ball GT and a good chunk of the English Dub Dragon Ball Z Films. He has a much smaller - but still dedicated - fanbase compared to the likes of Bruce Faulconer and Shunsuke Kikuchi, and very little of his music has been released. However, many fans appreciate the unique voice he bought to the series and are saddened to see little interest in his works.

Presented in this thread is what I believe to be the most complete collection of works by Mark Menza for Dragon Ball Z & GT. Many of the tracks presented here have been scrounged together from multiple sources, but they are completely SFX-free and, for the most part, presented in the highest possible quality. As nothing officially has been released for any of the composers in this thread, I've taken the liberty of throwing together some custom album art for whatever music player you're using. I am in no way skilled at using Photoshop or other image editing tools, but I think that the album art I've managed to put together should suffice.

None of the tracks have been edited by me. I am not a music editor, but even I am aware that a lot of these tracks would benefit from some cleaning up. Alas, it is outside my ability to do so. Besides, there are some far more talented folks than I around able to do so.

Film Music of Dragon Ball Z

54 tracks, TRT: 77mins, 320kbps (sixteen tracks at lower bitrates)

Although this release has been scrapped together from multiple sources, main credit goes to wolup in this (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f91/dragon-ball-z-gt-english-movie-soundtracks-134401/#post2359599) thread for providing the bulk of the tracks presented here. What's the difference between his release and mine? I've taken out the tracks from GT (the reason for you'll see below), as well as some duplicate and redundant tracks. Some of the tracks are presented in higher quality. There was also some music missing from wolup's version (mainly from "Bojack Unbound" and "Fusion Reborn") that I've added. All tracks are labelled with the movies they belong to, and are presented in film order. Included are some custom art covers I put together myself. I also corrected some slight errors in the original release (Mark Menza did Bio-Broly guys, not Nathan Johnson).

But if this thread is mainly about Mark Menza, why is there music from Nathan Johnson and some other composers there? Simply put, there is so little music available from the English release movies that it didn't make much sense to make a separate release for the other composers. So, I kept them in there. It's still mainly Mark Menza's show, though.

EDIT: Added two tracks to the "Wrath Of The Dragon" section by Nathan Johnson. Props to coycoy88 (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKjaaq6ZC9fFhu9kvlbnNQA) for ripping them in great quality.

Dragon Ball GT

65 tracks, TRT: 91mins, 320kbps (two tracks at 128kbps, one track at 256kbps)

This is why I removed the GT music from the above release. There is actually quite a bit of clean music that has been ripped from the show, enough that I feel it warrants a separate release (especially since Z and GT are vastly different shows). Almost everything presented in this release comes courtesy of Vlad Drakul. The fact that he fulfilled my request for such obscure music makes me extremely grateful, and I certainly don't want to steal his thunder. Check out his thread here (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f91/dragon-ball-gt-japanese-scores-original-inedit-118277/#post2042217), and go and thank him.

So why did I post this if there is already a thread for it? Well, again, I've made some changes. Vlad Drakul presented me with a considerable challenge as his release contained the music out-of-order with most of them untitled. There was also a sizeable chunk of duplicate tracks confusingly labelled as unique tracks. I like almost all of my film and television scores to be presented in some sort of chronological order, so I knew I had a difficult task ahead of me. So what did I do?

I sat down and watched the anime. All of it.

It was painful.

As I went through I jotted down where and when the music tracks Vlad Drakul gave me played in the show; a difficult task. Especially considering unlike Faulconer's score for Z, most of GT's music had very similar instrumentations and often blended together (in what some might describe as the wallpaper effect). Even now there are two or three tracks of which I'm not 100% sure of their chronological placement. Nevertheless, I am for the most part certain that what is presented here is as close to the chronological order as possible.

Despite all of this, I still wasn't happy. Most of the tracks were rather unattractively titled "Untitled #". So, I went through and gave names to all of them. Keeping with the tone of the show, some of the tracks are rather stupidly named, and I also threw some hints in some of the thematic tracks which reference Faulconer's track titles. See if you can find them!

All of the duplicate tracks have been removed from this release. All-in-all, an astounding ten minutes worth of music was redundant.

Finally, I made some simple cover art for the whole thing. It's a simple release, but considering the work that went into it I'm rather proud of it. I haven't released it for the longest time because I still had some reservations of the quality of the music. Some clipping errors at the end of tracks, volume fluctuations from track to track, some minor stuff. That being said, it is all SFX-free and despite some of the problems, pretty much CD quality.

Dragon Ball Z: The Ultimate Uncut Edition

22 tracks, TRT: 55mins, 192kbps

Compiled here is a sample of the work Nathan Johnson did on the Ultimate Uncut Special Editions, which spanned the first season and most of the second season (ending with the episode "A Legend Revealed", when Goku first fights the Ginyu Force). Johnson's score is certainly a departure from Faulconer's heavy electronic rhythms, as Johnson would focus mainly on emulating real instruments and orchestral progressions, with a sizeable but not overwhelming helping of electronic elements. It is somewhat of a shame that not only was none of Johnson's music ever released, but also that he was only contracted for these first 67 episodes, especially as you get the feeling he only started to hit his stride later on (see "Get What's Coming" and "Ginyu Force Theme").

Once again, main credits go to coycoy88 (https://www.youtube.com/user/coycoy88) for this one. Unfortunately, all of his megaupload links are long dead and his 4shared account long gone, so everything here was ripped straight from Youtube, hence the not-so-amazing quality. But, for these tracks, it suffices. Also, another crappy custom cover by me is included. Horray!

Track List:

1. Stand Off
2. Vegeta Eats Senzu Bean
3. Ginyu Force Theme
4. Burter & Jeice Attack Goku
5. Battle Theme 1
6. Energy Beam Struggle
7. Goku vs. Vegeta
8. Battle Theme 2
9. Goku's Arrival On Namek
10. Guru's Theme
11. Ending Music
12. Vegeta Kills Nappa
13. Evil Vegeta's Theme
14. Normal Zarbon vs. Vegeta
15. Vegeta's Great Ape Transformation
16. Welcome To Other World
17. Goku Racing To The Rescue
18. Piccolo's Sacrifice
19. Goku Powers Up Kaio Ken Attack
20. Yamcha vs. Saibamen & Yamcha's Death
21. Yajirobe Fights Vegeta

Here's hoping you enjoy what little I can offer from some of the lesser known artists involved in one of the greatest anime of all time!

It was painful.
Meaning... GT sucks all time, right?

If you say Yes, I will lick you... endlessly.
If no.... no licks for you.

Not a fan of then American soundtrack unless its Faulconer. But hey... Dragon Ball geek here... I saw it original in my country. I still prefer the japanese soundtrack by Shunsuke Kikuchi. But the faulconer tracks, gave an incredible new mood for the series. Shuki Levi too.

I love the cover you made for DBZ :D

I wanted to like GT, I really did. I enjoyed both the Japanese and American soundtracks for it, but...not much else. So thank you so much for uploading the only good aspect of this show, it's much appreciated.

Thank you for the kind words, and special thanks for the re-upload! In case anyone was wondering, my Mega account was flagged and everything got deleted off of it, hence why most of my uploads are down for the moment.

As for whether GT sucks...it does, no questions about it, but it doesn't suck all of the time. There are a few salvageable moments here and there, but they are few and far between and not enough to hold up most of the illogical, bizarre and downright painful parts of the saga.

For me, some of the highlights of GT were:

-the first fight between Goku and Uub, cut way too short and almost fooling us into thinking this would be just as good as DBZ
-Goku's fight with General Rildo, mainly before he went Meta-Rildo and became Meta-Cheap Buu 2.0
-Baby's birth sequence, which was surprisingly tense and atmospheric
-Baby arriving at Earth and hunting down the Saiyans one at a time, one of the very very few things GT did better than Z in my opinion was changing up the background environments for the fights on Earth (the wind farm for Vegeta and Gohan's fight being a highlight for me) instead of the same series of canyons and deserts we seem to have gotten in Z
-Uub's short fight with Baby Vegeta, in fact most of Uub's fights were pretty good and reminiscent of DBZ (too bad Uub got nerfed hard, but then again who didn't in GT)
-the idea of having to evacuate the Earth in a matter of weeks was a cool idea, and lead to a real tearjerker moment when Piccolo said goodbye to Gohan (one of the best relationships in the series that I really wish was expanded upon more)
-"SUPER DRAGON FIST!" (both times)
-Android's 17 and 18's development in the Super 17 saga (what little of it we got)
-the finale, which I found to my bewilderment to honestly be better than the DBZ finale ending, especially as he goes around saying goodbye to his closest friends (although his family gets shafted again, which stops it from being a perfect send-off)
-the final four minutes of GT, in all honestly the absolute best part of the show, so much so that I really have difficulty seeing how they could top an ending so heartfelt and conclusive if a new series of DBZ ever gets made

Personally, I'd say look up some of the better parts on Youtube; slugging through the series just to get to the few good parts just isn't worth it in my honest opinion. Thankfully, with the release of "Battle of Gods" we can safely file this one away as non-canon. I think someone on this very site put it best when they said something along the lines of "I prefer to think of GT as more of an interesting "What If?" scenario...that or one of Vegeta's nightmares that lasted 64 episodes."

I want to thank you GlassButterflies for all the hard work you did on this! I'm sure a lot of people are benefiting from your toil! Also I'm not sure if you take requests but there is a song in the Super Android 13 movie that I haven't been able to find anywhere. Maybe you'd have a lead on it because I've exhausted the extent of my abilities to find it. The song first appears when androids 14 and 15 enter the city and ends when they blast the restaurant Goku is eating at. It has a funky feel to it, and is pretty cool, but I have no idea where to find it.

Regardless, I appreciate all the effort you put into this! I will pass this along to others who I think would enjoy it!
