How did you come up with the conclusion? any reason?

I have played FF1 but not FF2, I thought it would've been pretty cool if I had been born at the time but after playin FF6 to 10, I can't deny they are much better than FF1.

I have a lot of fun playing FF1 and 2, FF1 in particular, but they just don't have the special place in my heart that some of the later games do.

Theyre good games, classics at that, but the storylines, graphics, ideas overall have improved as time passed by, so no FF1 and 2 arent the best ones in my opinion. My personal favorite is 9 with 7 coming close behind

Compared to later games, FF1 and FF2 are pretty poor. They are fun, but they miss the whole epic storyline part. Or the storyline part at all in FF1.

You also have to keep in mind the time the game was made. Before Final Fantasy the only other RPG to ever be on a consol was Dragon Warrior (which is still one of my all-time favorites mind you). Granted the graphics are better now, but the people who made FF1 and DWI defiantly not only paved the way, but did a lot more work with what they had than the developers of today.

If you'll notice, the stories tend to improve in both of the series until you get to the Playstation games (including FF7, the story was horrid in that game, all you FF7 fanboys need to get over the fact that the game sucked) because at that point the developers began to focus much more on making the games visually appealing than gameplay oriented. Not to mention the fact that, in the cause of Final Fantasies, they became marked to hell, and much easier to beat. This was so that people who weren't normally into RPGs would be dragged in by the flashy videos and the fact that the games are INCREDIBLY easy to play/beat. The case with FF7 just shows how well it worked because the average fan of the game thinks that FF7 is the best game ever, but usually hasn't played the earlier games. If the fan has, he or she still hails to FF7 because of the graphics. They tend to like the story better because it is easier to follow, and the game is easier so they are able to focus more on the story rather than how much they hate the game due to the difficulty.

When you come right down to it, the older games are superior. If the developers back then had the same technology at their disposal as the ones today we would see some very remarkable games indeed. I'm sure at least a few of the developers are still around today, but the fact is that they don't have to make the same quality games anymore because the titles are so well known you could be a piece of crap fighting against the evil pee queen and people would still buy the games.

But anyway, that's probably more than my two cents.

FF1 was actually the first ff i ever played. My older brother got it for his birthday when i was around 3 or 4 years old. No, I haven't yet beaten it with all thieves. One point I want to make though is that yes, FF1's creators put a very great deal of effort into it, and yes it was a very remarkable accomplishment, you still have to take into account that RPGs were still very new. The game makers hadn't quite gotten a grasp of some of the concepts of RPGs that could have made the game better. For example, you can only buy one item at a time. That means if you want 99 heals, you have to press "A" a total of 297 times to do so. Plus, I'm sure you all know too well what happens when you tell two of your characters to attack the same monster and the first one kills it: ineffective. Don't get me wrong, it was still a really fun game, but I think the games right afterwards were the best because the game makers had the experience with RPGs. As for FFII, I only saw my brother playing it on an emulator for a short amount of time (unless you really mean FFIV.) I can't really say what that one's like.

I get the odd impression that you don't like FF7. Like I said, FF1 was the first game I played. And I could care less about the graphics, but I thought FF7 was a great game. I don't think the storyline is that easy to follow. If it is to you, then would you please tell me exactly what you thought when Cloud gave Sephiroth the Black Materia? (Let's not drag this out too long; this IS an FF Classics forum.)

I have beat them both, they are ok, not my favorites.....they are unpolished and more experimentory, they didnt have it down to an art back then. I liked 1 better than 2, mostly because i hated the magic leveling up system, making magic almost useless.

I think part 1 is a classic, great fun, it may not have the best graphics or story but it is still an epic and its less "on rails" than the playstation games, and theres no cuts scenes or you getting warped to the next village, you really have to go out and explore for yourself...

I havent played part 2 much but Ive heard its the worst in the series and ive also found the levelling up system shitty and way to slow.

All I really remember from the first FF was that I had to fight a lot of really annoying enemies that came in huge groups. And that the ending was rather unsatisfying. "Ok you won." I know that it was really innovative for its time, but I can't say I enjoyed it more than some of the later games. I really think that after FF6, the games took a steep plunge for the worse.

I LOVE FF1j and FF3j. FF3 is much longer and better however. FF1 is cool and all, and minimizing ineffectives while killing enemies before they can hit you a lot is just amazing, but overall FF3 has a lot more story.

The later stories are just putrid. I don't really care about people with wierd names and wierd clothes running around in super cool graphics. FF1's NUKE is the best spell ever.

In terms of gameplay, I think Final Fantasy I is the most balanced - it's the only Final Fantasy i've been able to just battle to level up without getting as bored as I usually do.

This is only on the Final Fantasy Origins version though - I wouldn't be able to stand the game without sprint shoes :(

I haven't really played FF2 as yet - and I didn't really get far in FF1. I'm waiting for them to come out on the GBA.

I have played FF since it was on NES. I would have to say that it was not that difficult to beat. Even at that time. Dragon Warrior was much tougher than FF. It took me 4 days to go thru FF1. I still love the series and all. FF7 was great as it took the series in a whole new direction. It was linear and non-linear all in one which no one seems to realise. You could beat the game easily yes but to get it all and have it all was very difficult. It took me 98 hours to get all materia and beat the ultimate weapons. FF8 to me waws by far the best. The story line was superb and the gameplay fantastic. But in terms of starting it all off and paving the path FF1 and FF2 really did a good job. i love them both and still play them to this day. I have enjoyed them with countless hours put into each of them. To me it just seems that they pushed out X-2 so fast they didnt care much about anything. Storyline sucked and the gameplay was almost exactly like FFX. Dont know about FFXI cause i havent played it. Not into the whole MMORPG thing yet. I just hope FFXII will be better than the past 2 have been.

1 was better than 2, I died so many times in that game, but I haven't really played 1 at all. Erase 3,4,5,6,7,8,9, and Tactics from my memory and ask me then.
