We like our death........whether its pernament or not, its somethings we fans treasure because it leads to great drama ;) and it just happens to be something square-enix cant live without. hell, they cant even lay off the guys that are already dead, lol, like shuyin and who-not. Anyways, we've already gathered many apparent characters to the up and coming FFXII and it wouldnt hurt to give idea's on who could die in it and in future FF's. I'll also give off a list of the previous die'ies. ps...i know im leaving out several games either because i dont remember or havent played them and im including key characters who may of been dead the whole time
Spoliers*****
FF4- Tellah (sacrifice and severe loss of energy)
Palom&Porom (sacrifice by casting of Stone on self)
FF7- Aeris (death by fatal wound)
Sephiroth ( death by several fatal wounds).....technically....but apparently not with FF7AC
FF8- Raine (ummm....cant remember....illness??)
FF9- Kuja (death to fatal wound)
FFX- Tidus (well, i count him because well, he was kinda alive in most players heart it was considered as him dying or pernamently leaving)
Seymour (ummm.....blah....need sleep....)
Mika (ummm....same as before)
Kinoc (Seymour killed him!!)
Auron (well he was dead for awhile but offically died when he was sent)
Jecht (same reason at Tidus)
******just for mention, Wakka's brother, and Seymour's father (cant think of name)
FFX-2 Shuyin (death to fatal wound)
Lenne (death to fatal wound)
Well, after fumbling through all of that I personally would perfere for someone to die by losing control of there mind to evil (kain like) and kill themself to no longer aid evil or they contain a virus and wish to no longer spread it, hehe i like that one
So guess away....who should die today??

I have my money on Vaan's girlfriend... just because she looks like an obvious target to my eyes. o_O

But isn't it completely against The Rules to kill the happy-go-lucky girl?
Personally, I think that this pretty white-haired guy from the pcitures doesn't have good chances of survival. Either he dies, or becomes evil. Or both. I bet.

How about something unique: None of them die...
Nah, it's not going to happen, is it?
I am not sure on character names let alone who's going to die. :(

>=U
Of course it is the pretty white-haired guy because Maliris likes him!
GO, DIE ALREADY!!!!
To prevent this post from being called a spam I say:
I think there are many to die. There seem to be lots of battles and Ill just sit back and enjoy the slaughter.
;_;
As I did in FFX...
So, lets wait and have a tea; Im sure Square will do a greaaat job with killing characters... as always.

Eh, I'll put my money on the Veira.
Square's usually killing of humans. Maybe this time around, they'll mix it up a bit. ;)

But that seems to be a trend with the recent FF games: Main/normal characters dying. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, but I think that it is a good thing. For me, it adds drama and emotion to the game when something like this happens. It totally catches you by surprise and makes you want to play the game more.

How can it be a trend after ONE GAME?
MogKnight
07-28-2004, 11:34 AM
Well... considering that in FF2, a few people died... and in FF5 one of em dies.... and FF6 had a few....
It is a trend that started ever since FF2.

"Recent"?
MogKnight

FF2 can be considered recent... it came out recently to the US.
Tokiko

Which means that any FF game can be considered recent. :(

Bar FF3...
Square should really do something to rectify that.
Anyway: A death can be a really emotional catalyst in the story, and can lead to steps in character development that weren't there before. I'd like to see steps taken in character skills as well as in character emotion. Say, the main character loses his loved one, awakens a dark side, gives access to new battle skills that eat at the soul or something.

overall i just think its funny sometimes how square-enix has this huge thirst for blood, especially with X but then again the theme was DEATH so what did you expect?? all out sex?? ha..
anyways, i agree with bahamutzero
and i definetly do not believe FFIV can be considered "recent"......a re-release doesnt make the game.....recent
well, im trying to get more idea's for post for the more imaginative kind because some posts are really really sad and repetative. thats what im trying to avoid so post some of your own or toss ideas my way and being somewhat new its hard not to repeat..........like now lol
kain should never die!!! grrr stupid rumble....

To have characters die is always ... a good idea.
That prevents the game from becoming, lets say... predictive.
I mean, its only fair that characters you play yourself die while others also die. It would be strange to have a selected few survive every blast, sword fight or explosion.
I kill characters myself just to keep the story going and developing. U_U But its sad! =_=
But: when people say: "Oh~ I was so sad when XXX died!" about your story then you can be proud of it!
Back to topic.
Square-Enix should kill characters. Not always those I love but they should...
As long as its a great scene everybody will remember, Im happy.
Something like rescuing the other characters from the bad guys... or... something different. Thats always utterly dramatic! U_U

the bad guy is gonna die s/he allways does right?
Bahamut ZERO

The reason why the bad guy always dies at the end of the game is because you feel cheated by the game if the person you spent hours trying to defeat just turns round and annihilates your party. You're just sat there and thinking "gah, all that effort and what for?"
I suppose having a character who you spend three quarters of the game chasing, who then turns out not to be the evil person you thought they were and who joins up with you (redeemed, to an extent) is a neat little twist, but I am not sure if Square will ever do it where the bad guy gets away with it.

*SPOILERS*
By recent, I guess I was talking about FFX, since Auron is dead. Maybe I worded that the wrong way, but it just seems like that Square has been killing off main characters a lot more than they used to.

::SPOILERS::
Well, character death has been pretty major since 4, in my opinion, even though half the characters didn't really die.
In VI there was the super emotional death of General Leo, and it's debatable as to whether or not Shadow dies in the end.
Those are both generally considered to be from the older generation of FF Games.
I don't like the idea of a character getting killed off just for the sake of having someone die- any death that happens should be important to the plot.
I love a good emotional death scene though.

Hm, I don't think Square's been killing more than they used to.
True, FFX was gruesome in that aspect, but this was just FFX. It was the darkest FF to date, I think, centered around death, in a setting and with a story that oth needed there to be deaths.
FFIX had none of the cast die (well, no obvious death), and same for FFVIII. These are the recent FFs, I believe.

Well, I think that most of the deaths in FF games have helped make it better. Take Aeris for example:
Her death symbolizes her willingness and sacrifice to summon Holy. If she never died, then the storyline would have been a lot worse, IMO.

Oh, I agree completely. I'm sorry if I phrased that weird and made it sound like I thought FF games had bad death scenes.
I meant it more in regard to randomly picking a person to die since there should be a death scene somewhere or other in the game.
That's phrased horridly too, but I'm sure you can get the gist.

By the way.
How do you like death scenes?
Meaningful, dramatic? Someone dying for a cause, like saving his loved ones' lives or killing a bad guy off along with him or the like?
Or an unspectacular death: Someone just dies in a battle, no one you expected, with no meaning, no dramatic final words etc...
The latter kind is certainly more realistic. And I hate it whenever it happens in a book or movie. xD
But on the other hand, I'd have a certain kind of repect for the writer who dares to try this realism...
Because not every death is grand and meaningful. :(

I prefer unexpected deaths, that are spectacular. There is something about watching one of your characters die that you thought would be with you until the very end, that makes me want to play the game even more. It's these kind of surprises that makes me think "Wow, I never thought that would happen!" Thus, my interest in the game rises greatly.

The romantic in me prefers the more spectacular death scenes.
I wouldn't mind a more realistic death scene as long as there was a lot of drama around it afterwards. I think you could do some really beautiful stuff with that- if someone died suddenly in a battle, but the other characters couldn't allow themselves to grieve right away.
