Right, first things first. After playing the game for the first time, I am greatly disappointed in the storyline. Spoilers below.
Before this game was released, I was interested in who Shuyin and Lenne were, and all the other additional characters. But you know what? How the whole thing turned out in the end... pretty much sucked.
Not only does the story of Shuyin and Lenne disappoint me, there was no hint of anything that occured in FFX-2 in FFX.
If any of the new characters had minor appearances, or were even hinted at, it would've been better.
In Baralai's sphere, you saw him speaking to Seymour just before Yuna arrived. Now I know that this was good to see in FFX-2, but in FFX, nothing. Obviously, it had nothing to do with the story, and it was only thought up of after FFX was made.
But they really should have thought up of another story or plot which linked with the things in FFX and were actually shown in FFX.
Because of the way FFX turned out, it would have been absolutely fine as a stand-alone game if the scene with Tidus at the end didn't appear.
The whole story of FFX-2 could actually be scrapped and changed, because nothing in the game was mentioned in FFX.
If Square-Enix planned a sequel beforehand, they could have included a few things that would be cleared up in FFX-2. Although this would make it clear to people that there would be a sequel, the complete story and overall feel of both games will be a lot better than it is.
I can't clearly remember, but the only thing that appeared in FFX but wasn't cleared up till FFX-2 was the cave in Besaid.... I think. I can't check at the moment, but I think the cave entrance was also there in FFX.
Vegnagun being hidden under Bevelle, Maechen having shaken Lenne's hand before, Baralai, Gippal, Nooj, Paine or any other character. If they were hinted at in any way at all in FFX, it would have been better.
Because none of it was, it seems that the whole of FFX was fake and unimportant.
Well, that's my view anway. Square could have really thought of a better story.

(moans) Not this again. Have you gotten 100% Have you seen all the Episode Completes? Did you get at least the Good Ending? That's the only way I even want to being to hear any of this.

I got 100% completion and saw the extra cut scene. That part was ok. That didn't really seem related to any part of the FFX-2 story of Shuyin and Lenne.
They could have had some other story to re-unite Tidus and Yuna.
Because of what you asked, it also proves that the majority of the game makes FFX seem unimportant. You'd have to actually complete it 100% just to see a short scene that links fully back to FFX.
Like I said before, if they had hinted at any of the events in FFX-2 in FFX it would have been better. But since it was made afterwards, they couldn't. Instead, they could have thought of a story which linked with events in FFX and were shown in FFX.
Because they hadn't planned a sequel beforehand, they had to make up new unrelated materal. If Square had planned it all, both of the games would truly shine.
It would have been better just to not have a sequel. Since it does make FFX seem totally fake and unimportant.

I aggree. FFX-2 was a fun game to play with the mini games and scenes and every bit in between, but altogether, none of it made sense. Especially the beginning when Leblance steals Yuna's sphere: When they change into spheres only their clothing changes, yet Leblanc somehow managed to get Yuna's face and everything.
I was also seriously disappointed with Lenne and Shuyin's story. When I saw the flashback thingy during Yuna's song, I thought it was going to be this huge, deep thing concerning all four of them being somehow connected other than "Whoo Shinra gave me this DresSPghere andh now I HAve LenNe's Memories!"
The end with Lenne and Shuyin really disappointed me.

You poor souls. :(
I can't say that it made FFX unimportant. The whole world in FFX-2 had only been possible because of FFX. I was reminded on it all the time, whenever I visited a place or met a person from FFX. Of course they had changed. Zanarkand is the most extreme example. But this contributes to the flair...
Kat... what would you have expected to happen with Shuyin and Lenne at the end? o_o
Why do you think we need an explanation more complicated than "The Dress Sphere connects Yuna to Lenne"? I'd have howled in sorrow if they had introduced a back story of Tidus and Yuna being, say, descendants, clones or reincarnations of Shuyin and Lenne, because THAT would really have been unbelievable. In an original game, okay, but in a sequel? I can believe a character being related to one villain, okay, but not to two. :(

I liked the love story behind Shuyin and Lenne.
It was just the way all Final Fantasy love stories are:
Just absolutly wonderful and touching and aww~
Yes... its great the way it is although they should have mentioned some characters of Final Fantsy X... only some times but hell, that would have helped me! ;_;

Why bother with Shuyin and Lenne at all.
There didn't have to be this love between a summoner and another 1000 years ago. There didn't have to be Vegnagun, they just decided to plonk that thing under Bevelle.
They added the extra dungeon after the Beyond in Zanarkand, didn't really explain how that came about.
The Fayth Scar, thats some hefty change there.
Occasionally Yuna would just talk about stuff that happened before reminding us of it. But after that, it's totally unrelated.
Ok sure, the whole story is believable, but it's not a great one at that. It ruins FFX almost completely.
All those spheres and new locations added to existing locations. It just seems really artificial.
All in all, if you try and describe the whole story of FFX and FFX-2, the main thing that will always pop up is Shuyin, Lenne and Vegnagun. The whole thing with Sin would end up being overshadowed.
The Crimson squad, the Den of Woe, all that only appeared in FFX-2. Not even a small hint in FFX. Because none of these things were in FFX, it makes it seem unimportant.
The good ending and extra cutscene aren't really related with the story at all. It's just added there to wrap up the thing at the beginning. Yuna became a sphere hunter because she wanted to look for Tidus. The person in the sphere wasn't actually Tidus at all... I don't see why she says at the end:
"it all began when I saw this sphere of you."
Then the whole game was about Shuyin, Lenne and Vegnagun. Then, only if you have enough story completion, you see the reunion of Tidus and Yuna.
The Fayth just decide to appear and ask her if she wants to see him again. Heck, the Fayth barely existed at all in the game. Sure, you had to do the whistling thing... but if you were playing it for the first time, would you know you had to press X four times at the end of chapter 3? No, the whole story would've been absolutely fine without it. You only need to do that to activate the good ending. Which simply proves that FFX didn't really play a part in the vast majority of FFX-2.

Well it would have been better than just sticking Lenne and Shuyin in there because they could (which is what they did). They had nothing to do with FFX- at all. I was hoping there would be some kind of relation between them. And what do you mean two villains?

If anything, I'd say X-2 made me enjoy X even more.
I'm currently replaying it, and it's so much fun to see the world of Spira as it was after seeing all the ways it changed.

I believe that there are things that Yevon always hid from everyone. It's entirely possible that Vegnagun was always there shut down. With Sin running rampant, Yevon were loathed to touch it. One destructive force running about Spira was more than enough, thank you very much. Plus Yevon was meant to be anti-machina (which was a bit of a farce, really.)
Once Yevon had crumbled, and the new order came in, Vegnagun's location was found and thus we get all the new stories coming through.
I can understand how you feel cheated because there was absolutely no mention of Shuyin and Lenne, but they had absolutely nothing to do with Sin. Sin was the central feature of the first game, and everything stemmed from it and came back to it. Shuyin and Lenne were completely independent.
Not until after Sin was gone did the people of Spira realise that there is more to life than Sin, and these new tales from the past begun to shine through. ^^ Just enjoy the game, or don't play it.

By the way, someone with good knowledge of the story please tell me... Wasn't it only during that mission recorded in the Crimson Spheres that Shuyin was freed...?

Yes, that's correct. His consciousness was trapped in the Den of Woe and then once they did that mission, he took control of Nooj.

I enjoy the game, it's a good one, but it just ruins the story.
It's all about Shuyin, Lenne and Vegnagun. Not a story I really like to be honest. It makes the story of Tidus and Yuna far less important.
It would've been better if they released FFX-2 as FFX (with some slight modifications), and made FFX the prequel. Although the story would still be the same, I wouldn't be saying that it ruins FFX.
