As we all know, Cecil chose to change his life by becoming a powerful paladin which led to the saving of earth, but do you think he still could and would of done it if he hadnt become a paladin? this one could take some thought.....
why he would stop
1.if he hadnt become a paladin he could of possibly become posessed like kain.
2.easily could of given up and became powerful on his own and rule baron with ease
3.he most likely wouldnt of be able to get the whale ship
why he would keep going
1. still loves rosa
2. has his loalty to baron
3. wants to help kain
4. and ultimately find out who he is and about his past

but hey, thats not how the game is and we all still love cecil..well i do anyways lol

If you haven't played the game, yet even know the storyline about it, that is your loss.

*SPOILERS*

No, I don't think there is any way that Cecil would have still saved Earth if he remained a Dark Knight. Knowing how powerful he was, Golbez would have manipulated Cecil, just like he did with Kain. Could you imagine a team of Cecil and Kain bent on destroying the world? It would be almost impossible to stop them.

Cecil wouldn't be able to acquire the Big Whale. The Legend talks about one who will hoist the Light and the Dark. Since Cecil didn't become a Paladin, then he would only be hoisting the Dark. Thus, it is impossible for him to get the Big Whale, until he become a Paladin.

Alpott, I'm going to put a spoiler warning in the title, but still. I think it is pretty clear that a thread titled "Cecil's decision" deals with important story details.
