I think that the Mortal Kombat series has started slipping down a muddy path that is hard to stand back up on.

Mortal Kombat was fun back in the day- it's always been cheesy and over the top, but that was part of the fun.

Recentish Mortal Kombat games have been nothing short of awful though. I picked up Deadly Alliance on a whim because it was so cheap, and it saw maybe 2 hours of playtime, tops.

I'd have to admitt Deadly Aliance wasn't exactly the greatest Mortal Kombat but deception looks like its going to be a great improvement and bring it out of this so called down fall.

The FF series recovered after FFVIII so why cant Mortal Kombat?

Well, after FFVII was released, a new bar was set as to how good a game could really get, especially with the Final Fantasy series. So, when FFVIII was released, people expected nothing short of FFVII, but they were disappointed a lot with FFVIII. I guess most people saw FFVIII as a big disappointment, when they compared it to FFVII. But, when FFIX and FFX came out, people were satisfied once again.

Just like Mortal Kombat. The series has been not too good lately, and Deception is trying to bring it back onto the gaming map.

Not true, some people like VIII more than VII (not me), but the triple triad was one of the greatest minigames ever! Way better than all of the games at gold saucer (even put together). I dont think any FF fans should have been upset or dissapointed if they were about FFVIII.

Well, it is safe to say that the vast majority of Final Fantasy fans like FFVII more than FFVIII. Or, better yet, the vast majority think that FFVII is better than FFVIII. And when you become exposed to such greatness as what we saw in FFVII, you tend to want more of the same. There are people who expected a lot out of FFVIII, because they experienced FFVII. But, most of them were disappointed.

i used to like mortal kombat up until mk3. imo all beat em ups are losing it and the genre isn't really going anywhere, tekken 5 looks rubbish, i hated vf4 and soul calibur 2 was no better than the original.

The FF series recovered after FFVIII so why cant Mortal Kombat? Recovered it was one of the best selling games of all time. People didn't like because it wasn't FF8 it was it's own game. But there was the that magic system...:(
