Alright. The tale begins one evening at a Blockbuster in Vermont. Merl and I are renting some movies, and we happen to look at the games for sale. As usual, they don't have anything too exciting, but we do happen to spy Soul Blade, the PSOne Soul Cal predecessor. There are rave reviews on the back, we figure "What the hell", and pick it up.

We get home, we play it, and it sucked something awful. The controls were icky, the "animated" backgrounds gave me a head ache. . .words cannot describe how awful this game was.

Anyhow, since that occurance, I've seen rave reviews for Soul Blade everywhere. I can't fathom it. The only possible explanation I can think of is that (I think) Soul Blade was originally released on the Sega Saturn, and it was just a bad port.

Anyhow, what are some games that were really well reviewed that you absolutely hated?

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker!

It's not that I hated the game, but let's face it:

This game did not deserve Game of the Year from Nintendo. I can understand them nominating it, but actually winning, meh!

There was too much sailing. That was the main thing that turned me off on the game. I don't want to come home from work, and have to sail from one side of the world, to the other, just looking for a piece of the Triforce. Please.

The second part of the game was pretty gay. After you acquire the Master Sword, you only have to finish two temples to power it up. That is so lame! There were not enough temples to go around.

It was a really good game, but yes, it is overrated.

I loved the PSX Soul Blade. True, playing it NOW after the release of newer, smoother, easier to control fighting games might be a different kettle of fish, but playing the game when it first came out, and being challenged by collecting all of the weapons in the game, unlocking all the bonus characters (including swim suit wearing Sophitia~), and the multiple endings in arcade mode made up for things.

Plus you press up, and you jump. I like to be able to jump in such an easy manner.

Edit:- And I can't think of any good reviews of poor games. Apart from Kingdom Hearts, but that's just opinion. I hate it, and I know I'm in the minority.

What smokey said.
Except it isn't even a great game. It's a fucking sham of a ripoff of the last games that drags you along with a web of lies. The Four Swords is no better, as you will find.

Yeah, I wouldn't classify it as a great game either. You pretty much know what you have to do in order to beat the game. It's mostly the same routine over and over again. I read that the game recieved a 9.5 score. Bullcrap! WW does not even deserve a 8.5, but I will kindly give it a 8.

Are you talking about Four Swords Adventures for GCN, or the one for GBA?

I actually enjoyed Four Swords Adventures a lot more than I thought I would. It was a fun game to play, with a somewhat different storyline than A Link to the Past.

I think BZ is right, and you're just too used to Soul Calibur and such. Back in its day, Soul Blade was pretty damn good.

Loved Soul Blade

I get this kind of thing with movies all the time. I go watch a movie that got such great reviews and I cannot understand how. Games though... I dunno I can't really think of one that has gotten excellent reviews and I thought was terrible.

If you think Budokai was horrible, try playing a good bunch of the other DBZ games out in the Japanese Market, a lot of them were pretty "bad" compared to Budokai. Personally I thought Budokai was the best of the DBZ lot.

But uh... lets see... can't name a game that I read a good review on and found it to be really awful... Oh wait, Do You Like Horny Bunnies... that's a game.

I have friends who absolutely insist that Enter the Matrix is a good game.

Because you know, it's cool when you jump through the window and stuff.

There's a saying that springs to mind here...

Simple things please simple minds.

Strangely enough, my Mum always says it to me... Ahem...

Paul owned Enter The Matrix on the Xbox. I never really saw him play it that much though.
