I dunno about the rest of you, but I've had my eye on Eidos for some time now.
I first dsicovered them with the popular title Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. I was hypnotized by their new look at strategy games. I had never seen anything quite like it. Sure, there had been other games that were similar, but nothing like the stealthy excursions and fun bakstabbings of commandos.
I was surpised to find that they had something to do with Tomb Raider as well. This really didn't matter to me, because I never liked that game much, anyway.
Then one day, while over at my orcish friends house, he asked me if I wanted a CD containing some games. He described the contents therein as "mostly, they suck". He told me of a first person shooter that he didn't like much. He said that he couldn't get the graphics to work right, and that he figured the game would probably suck anyway.
When I got the game I was interested. I really couldn't tell what was going on because, as stated previously, there was something wrong with the graphics. This wasn't going to stop me though, I got to work in reading the Readme and soon discovered that the game was called Thief 2: The Metal Age. It sounded interesting, but nothing more. I also fixed the graphics and started gameplay.
This was truly one of the coolest games ever. Your character is Garrett, the master thief. He's not much of a fighter, but he can blend into the shadows. This is unlike any FPS because...it's NOT an first person shooter, it's a first person sneaker, as the manual says. In this game, you're meant to subdue you're enemies, instead of kill them. Well, you can still kill them, but it's quieter to knock them out with a swift blow to the head while they're not on guard. As a thief your character naturally steals things. This isn't the main plot though, there's much much more, I won't reveal it all, but basically you're out to save your city. After all, if there's no city, then there's no one to steal from. :)
I've never beaten the full version because I was stopped far too many times by giant robots with explosive cannonballs from bomberman.
However, about...four months ago I was looking for pictures of our Friend Garrett. I found an amazing rendition of him that was done using a Wacom Tablet. On this picture was the title "Thief III"
At the time they didn't have the name for it. This game would later be called "Theif: Deadly Shadows". In this sequals sequal, you once again go around as Garrett. Basically from what I read, the guys who trained you when you were a little kid (These people are called the Keepers) are now not really on your side because you've been digging to deep into their history. The Keepers protect the city from getting destroyed by whatever means, however they have a dark secret that you've been investegating too much, in their opinion.
Thief: Deadly Shadows was released on June 11 and is in stores anywhere that's good.
I suggest that someone with money (IE, not myself) goes and buys it and tells me what it's like.
The little I know about Thief: The Dark Project is this:
Garrett was brought up by the Keepers, for some reason though he never became one. Garrett is mostly fighting against two forces in The Dark Project; The Pagans and the Hammerites.
I think it's mainly just the Hammerites. The Hammerites believe in the Builder as their God. Their fanatical devotion to this Builder person basically leads them to believe that everything should be mechanical, 'n' stuff. If anyone does anything to oppose them, then that person gets smashed. By hammers.
The pagans are a bunch of insane hippies that live in weird places like enchanted forests. They want to do the exact opposite as the Hammers (Short for Hammerites). They want to have the entire city filled with more of the hippy kinds and have everyhting all...foresty...'n' stuff.
Theif II was a great game, I'm hoping that they haven't ruiend the title with stupidity, like so many other manufacturers have with great titles. The basic plot for The Metal Age is that a seperated faction of the Hammers, who call themselves the Mechanists are now you're new worst enemies. They want to kill everyone who isn't part of thier faction. Naturally you want to stop them, because who would you steal from if all the nobles die? So you make some new firends with some old aquaintances and try to stop Kerras, the head hancho of the Mechanists, from killing a lot of people. Yeah, there are hippes and hooded people in this game too.
So, opinions? Flamings? Hate mail? Whatever! I don't care, post! Especially if you're a fan of the games.
