If you own an XBOX, PC, Or playstation 2, the Two greatest espionage action games are available to you.
Im talking of Tom Clancys: Splinter Cell, And Hideo Kojimas Metal Gear solid 2.
What im interested in, is what other people see as the main differences in game play and storyline that make you like one over the other.
I own both games, and have recently been addicited to metal gear solid over splinter cell, because of the more depth you feel of the storyline, as with splinter cell, I only see a war of two countrys.
The best game play for me is splinter cell, as you get more of a thrill playing it, especially when your being chased and you need somewhere to hide, as it reminds me of playing chase or something as a child, that feeling when someone sees you and shouts "hes over there"
With metal gear solid 2, the most thing i enjoy about it, is the completly new storyline, using japanese anima mechs with the certain type terrorists of tom clancy and hideo kojimas imagination.
Well thats me, what do the rest of you think of these two games?

I prefer the Metal Gear series overall. But Splinter Cell is still fun, mainly because it's more of a challenge. Especially once you run out of ammunition and the knocked out guards start waking up again. But that's mainly because I just roam around in an area and like to knock them out repeatedly.
The best fun in Metal Gear Solid is attaching a C-4 charge to a hapless Genome Soldier's face while he's unconscious and watching him when he wakes up.
Kinda like in Red Faction when you hit someone in the face with a remote charge.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is a horrible game. Anyone who values it for its farcical and generally moronic plot deserves to be shot.

I still think the C4-on-the-guard's-face thing is the best way I've ever killed someone in a military game. EVER.

Where's the love for the GameCube? Not only do they have Splinter Cell (better than the PS2, not as good as the Xbox), but they've got Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, which wipes the floor with MGS2 any day of the week.
The original game had the better story by far, and combined with MGS2's graphics and control, and cinematics by a famous Hong Kong director, you can't go wrong!

Im really annoyed that they put twin snakes on the game cube..
What console was MGS1 on? PS1
What console was MGS2 on? PC, PS2, XBOX
So the people who would like to play twin snakes is, yep, NOT game cube users, but PS2, PC and XBOX users..
Why would they have it on gamecube anyway? there havnt been any MGS games on there in the past...

I bought a GameCube just so I could play The Twin Snakes.
So if you haven't done that, you can't claim to be a true fan.

Actually the first 2 (technically 3) Metal Gear games were on the NES and SNES, those games we're before Metal Gear Solid, so for Nintendo fans to be able to start following the storyline more they'd have to put Twin Snakes on Gamecube.
Oh and MGS is better than Splinter Cell!

I Still really dont think there were any MGS on the game cube, and meta gear: Outer heaven was released on the mega drive..
And can you be more specific why MSG was better than splinter cell?

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, boy. Or havent you been paying attention?
and meta gear: Outer heaven was released on the mega drive..
It was a port of the NES game, which was a port of the original game for the MSX home computer.
And can you be more specific why MSG was better than splinter cell?
Because mono-sodium glutomate makes everything good.

ExS put it better than I ever could.
As for why Konami put MGS:TS on Gamecube, imgaine they MGS on Playstationm then put MGS2 on XBOX exclusivly, its the same scenario here with Nintendo fans.

Lets do a little bit of MG history.
The first Metal Gear game was on the MSX but was ported to the NES (though harshly dumbed down due to memory and ended up as a completely new game).
The second Metal Gear game was Solid Snake and it came out on the MSX as well. It never saw a US release so many players never experienced what happened.
The next Metal Gear game was not apart of the Metal Gear canon, it was called Snake's Revenge.
Finally, Metal Gear Solid was released on the PSX with an upgrade package that was released later (VR Missions in the US but Intregal in JPN).
Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel was released on the Gameboy Color, fun game really.
Metal Gear Solid 2 came out exclusively for the PS2... then Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance came out on the PS2, PC, and the Xbox (though the Xbox got the release sooner).
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes then was released on the Gamecube and it was an updated MGS1... along with an extra NES version of Metal Gear for the JPN folks.
As for Splinter Cell...
PS2 got the worst version
Gamecube has the GBA connectivity function (which was nice)
Xbox has the best graphical and gameplay look of it all...
But I still perfer Metal Gear Solid... mostly because a good bunch of Splinter Cell feels too formal for me, it doesn't allow too much freedom.
