Mmm, nice contribution to the topic.
Final Fantasy V is one of the games on my "to complete" list. Alas, I really don't have the motivation to complete it because, well, I got lost somewhere in the game and found my party being ripped to pieces in any random encounter I entered.
I didn't really think much of the storyline either. I found it hard to identify with any of the characters. Again, this could be because of the amount of time I've spent away from the game...
I think I'll restart from scratch and master a few classes before I continue with the story.
Which reminds me of a topic I can start...

I actually really like Final Fantasy V. The thing is, you can't treat it as the average FF. A lot of the story is rather corny, but it's very entertaining if you have a sense of humor about it. Some of the solutions to problems are almost Power Ranger like in the way that the answers pretty much come out of nowhere and usually for no good reason. It's just a really entertaining game for me. Not only that but there are a load of funny moments as well. I guess the best way to classify it is the Comedic Final Fantasy.
Ok from now on any comments such as
you really are welsh will be taken as an offence!
:(
The reason I like FF5 is because of the job system. It enables you to not have to return to a "base of operation" eg- the invincible in FF9. To get a different character type.
Also I do have a sense of humor. Thanks for pointing out the comedy.

If the job system is what you like then you might want to try to track down FFIII (not VI) as well. It has the same basic job system but you have to spend points to change jobs, also there aren't as many to choose from. It's a pretty fun game, but REALLY hard at the start. Unfortunately the only way you'll probably be able to play it is on a ROM, which we don't exactly condone the use of here (not that I personally wouldn't ever use one).

Actually I was talking to Anna a moment ago saying that I really don't give a crap about the stories in FF... which would kinda explain why I like this game... but at the same time, I'm just not dedicated to it because you don't have Ninjas with Double Sword. :(

Final Fantasy V is my favourite game of the whole series, to be honest. I don't see why so many people that I know object to playing pixelated games. It's not ALL about the graphics, people!
Anyway...heh...yeah, I run the fanlisting (
http://fanlistings.sweetaurora.net/ff5) for this game, so maybe I'm a little biased. ;)
I used to run three FF5 character shrines - Krile, Faris and Reina - but now they're all closed. I didn't have the time to do such intense research as was necessary, then. I'm reviving my Reina shrine though, hopefully for the first anniversary of the opening of her fanlisting - and yes, I run that too. :)

i liked it. it's probably the most humorous. lots of death though too, which is kind of sad but it all ends up with a pretty good ending

Hey, those were 4 words. :p
Anyhow, I really like the gameplay in V, but I have yet to beat it. I always lose my motivation for one reason or another.
Lately though, I have been getting more hyped up to beat it. (it's probably all the good things you've been saying about it, Josh.) So, perhaps, within the next few months, you will see a post from me proudly proclaiming that I have at long last beat FFV~!

It really is a great game if you don't treat it as a "serious" game. Just play it for the laughs and you will love it, I assure you.
