Ok, everyone loves Mario. But which one is your favorite? And, which one is the best?

I used to love the Super Mario Challenge program they had, with that dude who the presenter called "The Ice Man" who won the competition... I wonder if he's still gaming...
Mario 3 is my favourite Mario. :) I remember completing this game late one night around my Dad's on an old black and white TV. Very cool. Very fun. I played up to Yoshi's Island in the series (including Mario Land on the Gameboy), but 3 was the one I had most fun with.

I don't like Mario as much as I used to, especially when he made the jump to 3-D in the N64.
My favorite of them is Mario 3, of course. This was one of the best games on the NES and it still is the all-time best-seller, for a reason.
I also like the Mario RPGs, although I haven't tried Paper Mario on N64. They're funny in a stupid and childish way, yet they're plain fun.

I almost said Super Mario World for the nostalgia sake (my first ever SNES game, and my current favourite GBA game),
but Super Mario 64 is the pinnacle of 3D platforming design. If you've ever played a platformer like Jak and Daxter, it's got brilliant design, but it's missing something - it doesn't have the scope, the feel, of Super Mario 64.
Seeing the Super Mario 64 x 4 demo gave me shivers on the Nintendo DS - there is so much potential there. I hope they choose to release the full SM64 on the DS, and have SM64x4 as an extension of it - as fun as 4 player hooning around may be, it doesn't top the 1 player adventure.

Yeah, Super Mario 64 was a trendsetter for how 3D Platforming games should be designed.
But one thing I never really understood: Super Mario Sunshine was a lot like Super Mario 64...
Find 120 stars/shines, rescue Peach from Bowser, enter numerous worlds. But why doesn't SMS get more credit? I mean, it is a great game, probably not as good as SM64, but still.

Probably because unlike Super Mario 64, which was released at the same time as the N64, SM Sunshine was delayed, so Luigi's Mansion was the first - and I hated Luigi's Mansion. If SM Sunshine came out at the same time as the GC, it would probably be more popular.
Anyway, I am yet to play Sunshine - I only got my Cube a month or two ago. I should hire it out and give it a try - if it's as similar as you say, it might quench some of my SM64 longings. I wish I had never sold my 64 :(

Yeah, Luigi's Mansion was released with GCN, whats up with that? It should be Mario, not Luigi!
You have yet to play Sunshine? Wow, how could you miss it so far? It is a lot similar. Some parts are better than SM64, and some are not up to par with SM64. But yeah, SMS is still a great game, and it is a lot like SM64. I think that it would quench some of your longings.
You sold your N64? Come on man!
I can't wait for the new Mario 64x4 on DS
