This fantasy film from 1996 tells the story of a recently-orphaned boy who goes to live with his mother's sister (a dour Whoopi Goldberg) and who also invents an imaginary friend ("Bogus") to help him cope with his new situation. Bogus, a flamboyant French magician, was played with great gusto by Gerard Depardieu. For her role as the boy's godmother, Whoopi was nominated for a Razzie Award in the Worst Actress category. That might partly explain why the film failed miserably at the box office, and why no soundtrack was ever released.
Shaiman contributed another of his charming scores, with flashes of humor and tenderness. Only a handful of brash numbers break the mood.
